Hassouni
Fuck I did see them, and I forgot to add that I saw PHOENIX too (headliner) with them (opener), which was an unbelievable show. Mostly cos Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix is one of the best albums ever, but TDCC was a pretty fun act. ALSO forgot to add that I've seen Franz Ferdinand twice (siiick) and the Killers once, on their debut album tour, which was incredibly disappointing. Also saw a band called the Stills, which seemed pretty big 2003/2004, but haven't heard from them since, as well as one called the Music, and maybe a band called the Fever. Also add the Klaxons, and Placebo (that was one of the early ones) Keep in mind that I've been going to concerts since I was 15, and I'm one of the older ones here
Hassouni
Oh just remembered seeing Razorlight too, are they still around? Also seen Cage the Elephant -their singer is a total spaz onstage, and not in a fun way. Same can be said for Karen O of the Yeah Yeah Yeahs, but I saw them in the pre-"Heads Will Roll" days, it seems that they've calmed down a bit? ......Literally these shows just keep popping back into my head. The greatest thing I had advance tickets for was a dual headline Rage Against the Machine/Beastie Boys concert for October 2000. But sometime in August, Mike D of the Beasties broke his shoulder biking, and the whole tour was cancelled. two months later, RATM had broken up, and now MCA is dead
â€On
I decided that, since I have never done this before, I would try and figure out every band I've watched. â€On
Well, any in particular you want to know about? There have only been a handful of "big" bands over the years that have let me down with how bad their live show was (compared to the album). A couple high points: -Dillinger Escape Plan right after Miss Machine came out was the highest energy show I've ever seen. I have never seen a band have so much energy and presence on stage. They were jumping off of everything they could, never missing a note, rolling around on the floor. The singer was accenting his notes with a cymbal/cymbal stand and was swinging it around. It flew off into the crowd, I think some kid got hit with it. They finished the song and he just said "you can keep that cymbal" and they went right into the next song. Slayer had nothing on these guys. -Converge was the only time I've ever seen a singer that I was absolutely terrified of. Jacob Bannon was drooling like a dog with rabies while he screamed. It was intense, I was front row for that. Pretty sure I got drooled on. -Florence Welch is the only singer I have ever seen where I thought to myself "fuck, her voice is just soaring". She hits higher and harder notes then on album, and it all sounds amazingly tight. -The most intimate show I've ever seen was in a Polish or Ukranian hall, it was about 20 people watching Clap Your Hands Say Yeah and it was dead silent in there. I felt scared to clap or cheer. The show wasn't fantastic or anything, but I've never had an experience that came even close to that. -Blink 182 after Mark Tom And Travis Show came out was the first "big" band I've ever seen. It was unreal and it planted a big seed in me. I was pretty big into pop punk at the time (I think I was in grade 9), so it was just at the right time for me. -I had a late start to live shows. My family didn't have much money when I was younger, so I didn't get the chance to see bands until I got a bit older. The first show I ever saw was in like 1999, a local band called Drive By Punch (they have broken up and played reunion shows like 4 times). I'm friends with all the guys, though they are a few years older than me. In high school I used to watch them jam after school every day and it was one of the big driving factors in me picking up bass (and then later learning guitar, which led me to keys). -Minus The Bear, Queens Of The Stone Age and Nine Inch Nails are three bands I would watch any time. They just get better every time I see them. -Tame Impala is the youngest band I have ever seen that had such a raw and legitimate talent that watching them seemed fake. They looked like they would be out of their element playing to thousands, but they were not at all. It was mind blowing. At that age, I would have been quivering with fear of fucking up. -Madeon is going to be the best dj in the world. He just turned 18 and he is so fucking talented. I can't wait to see how far this kid goes. -Stereophonics played the tightest set I have ever seen. It was like listening to an album. It made me want to listen to more of their stuff. -Fever Ray gave me chills. Karen is the best kind of weird, and you can really tell she is in her element doing this stuff. It reminds me of a quote Adam from Tool once said about keeping your stage presence separate from who you are as a person. I imagine she's super normal in person (then again, she's a swede, they all seem weird). -Weezer was the most boring overrated piece of shit band I have ever had the misfortune of seeing live. It's like they think they are a shoegaze band from their stage "presence" (I highlight that, because they have none). -I don't understand why everyone loves Radiohead. They were absolutely awful live (to be fair, I think all of their albums are pretty crappy and full of filler too). -Soulwax, !!!, The Rapture and a handful of others really made me appreciate live bands that make "dance" music, which is probably my favorite thing to watch. It's just so much fun, but it's not boring like watching some DJ's can be. I don't know. There's good and bad in lots of bands. Some of the stuff I've seen I don't have specific memories that stand out to me, just whether I enjoyed it or not. It's kind of gotten to the point where if something doesn't really stand out to me or blow me away, I won't remember a great deal about it. Sometimes I just remember that girl in the crowd I thought was gorgeous while watching that band hahah. So yeah, any specifics you want to know about? joytron
Really interested in hearing about any of the shows listed especially those bolded. Glad to hear how enjoyable the Tame Impala concert was, Innerspeaker is one of the few tours I will always regret missing. I am just not a huge fan of live music, especially the amount you have to pay, but a good deal of the bands on your list I would gladly. Surprised to hear about Radiohead, while some of their earlier shows seemed quite lacking, the In Rainbows tour was probably the best live set I have seen (but I would also list it was one of the greatest albums ever created so that might sway things). Once right after Merriweather came out, and once last year. The first time, it was amazing, last year it was awful. I actually left halfway through the set. During the first show though, they didn't have as good of visuals but they played so much better. I think they are the type of band that need drugs to make them work (them, not the audience), however, I think they just overdo it sometimes and you get a mess of a set. They are probably one of the bands that has recently reaffirmed in me that how tight they play reflects how much I enjoy the show (another good example of this is MGMT). Nothing in particular stands out about either show, but I did enjoy them the first time I saw them. -Beach House was really awesome in every way. Live, they basically reflect what their sound is (see: not much). So, don't expect much of a performance, but they sounded great. I remember telling a friend "this would be a great show to get a random blowjob at". We discussed at length how Beach Houses in general are great for getting a random blowjob at, and how this band really lives up to their namesake. I would definitely go see them again. -Dallas Green (City & Colour) has become a Canadian music scene staple. I have listened to Alexisonfire since they first came onto the scene (have a friend in Ontario who turned me onto them early), so seeing him come into his own over the years has been really great. I don't know why I didn't put it, but I've seen C&C like 4 times. It is always good, I never feel let down by him. He doesn't have much stage presence, but he more than makes up for that with how hauntingly good he is. Solid dude in person as well. My favorite was watching him at an opera hall. The acoustics, the performance, the interaction with the crowd, it was all you could ask for from an acoustic show. -Delorean was relatively new as a band when I saw them, and I don't really think they had gelled into how to perform yet. They played solid, but, with what is essentially shoegaze on a low end scale (see, no light show, no projections), it can get a little boring if the band isn't seasoned. I enjoyed myself, but I felt I could have enjoyed it a lot more. I will watch them again if I get the chance -Faith No More-well, it's Mike Patton. If you have ever seen him live, you'll know what I mean. He is just....a presence. He is a true performer in all aspects. He knows how to work a crowd, is always pitch perfect and is just damned entertaining. The rest of the band was good, as Mikes bands always are, but honestly, I just don't care about watching anyone else but Mike. I'm not a fanboy of his by any means, he just has that effect. He steals the show (if I'm not mistaken, this had something to do with the FNM breakup originally?) -Flaming Lips are a spectacle. I quite often found myself saying "this is so gay" and then laughing and continuing having a good time. Take that however you want, but, at the end of it I enjoyed myself. It was just so stupid happy that I felt almost out of place. You have to be able to lose yourself and let go if you ever plan on seeing them. Just enjoy it. -Interpol plays tight, but they are kind of boring. They just don't really do much, and, fair enough, their music wouldn't lead you on to think otherwise. If you like them, go see them. If you're not a huge fan, I wouldn't go out of my way to see them. There is just better live acts to spend your money on. -LCD Soundsystem is a band I will forever miss. Shut Up And Play The Hits just got released, but I didn't see it. I'm waiting until october/november for the blu-ray to come out so I would keep that in mind for watching once it comes out. I can only say good things about James Murphy and his sexy entourage of talent. The first time I saw them, some drunk guy who I'm not sure was even in the band came on stage and was playing cowbell and shit. It was weird. Other than that, everything was absolutely flawless. I can only hope he doesn't stop making new music, he is just an immense talent. Highlight was seeing Losing My Edge performed live, and the same day Gil Scott Heron was playing, so when he said that he pointed over to where he was with such a huge grin on his face it was just amazing. It was like he had been waiting his entire life to say it. -Little Dragon, I'll be honest, I don't remember much of this show in specifics. I enjoyed myself, but wasn't completely into it. I came out of it saying "that was alright" or something to that tune. I dig her, though, and when I saw her with Gorillaz I REALLY enjoyed it. I'll watch her again if I ever get the chance. -Mastodon. So. Fucking. Good. In every way. They are everything that metal should be. The show, the sound, everything. I'll watch them any fucking time I can. -My Morning Jacket was a low key acoustic show for one and a rock show for another. I just didn't know what to think for the rock show. I mean, I enjoyed it and I'm happy he isn't sad as fuck anymore, but he made much more intimate and passionate music when he was a sad bastard. It was unique. I can almost guarantee Bon Iver will probably take the same route and become more accessible and more mainstream. I can't say I would go see him and his band any more. If he does an acoustic tour someday, I'll go. -Neon Indian was boring and very sloppy and I really didn't enjoy myself. I may give them a chance to redeem themselves one day, but It just didn't do it for me. -Tame Impala I touched on already, but yeah, they were incredibly tight, and they just looked comfortable. It was weird. I kept raking my brain like "HOW THE FUCK ARE THEY DOING THIS?!". It was an experience I don't think I'll ever get again. It felt like I was watching the beatles at their early shows. So strange. I really hope they follow up Innerspeaker with something even more amazing, I really don't want them to fail. -Twin Shadow was pure 80's goodness. I enjoyed it immensely and will go see them again. Not much to really say, he didn't interact with the crowd much, but he had a sort of way to him (if you've ever seen the strokes, you'll know how Julian Casablancas is...it's kind of the same deal). I don't know, it was just good! -The XX is kind of like Interpol, they are good but they are just a little boring

Teganv
I am extremely jealous of pretty much all of you right now. I wish I had the chance to see half the shows you guys have scene. The only thing worth mentioning (maybe) for me would be Switchfoot before they made super weird trippy druggy music. Weird Al (x2), although the second time got rained out, Maroon 5 although I don't actually really care for Maroon 5, some small local shows, and I am going to see The Black Keys (although not really) on October 1st. I am actually only going to see Tegan and Sara open for them since this is the only time they have ever come to Fresno, and I probably won't stay for The Black Keys. I think that's it. Like I said, I would love to have seen some of the bands you guys have seen, like Tenacious D, AWOLNATION, Foreigner, City & Colour, The XX, Yeah Yeah Yeah's, Radio Head, Passion Pit, Modest Mouse, Florence and The Machines, Death Cab, Crystal Castles, CSS, Animal Collective, Avenged Sevenfold, Rush, Offspring, Jet, OK Go, Tiesto, Phoenix, Atari Teenage Riot, Blink 182, Coheed & Cambria, fun., Gorillaz, Grace Potter and the Nocturnals, The Kilers, Weezer, Mumford & Sons, Peaches, Warpaint, Cake, Gotye.
