hughe3jj
I am heading to my local lounge to pick up some more coals. I might as well see if they have any Tangiers funnels. They are pretty cheap from checking online. I will run up there and check in a view moments.
Urloc
Btw I noticed you said you smoke 6 bowls a day? Not sure how big they are but that almost makes you smoke while you sleep lol
Chreees
I'm hoping he's mistaken on what a "bowl" is... I think he may be thinking one round of coals, not how long the tobacco can go until it's all scorched to the bottom of the bowl.
hughe3jj
Nope, I wasn't mistaken :/ I was doing it completely wrong. But now I have a bigger/better bowl. I was scorching all of my tobacco it was literally turning black all the way to the bottom within 45 minutes to an hour. I have learned new heating techniques and make my bowls last much longer. I was essentially wasting a ton of tobacco
â€On
Glad to hear the forum has got you on the right track now! My biggest advice is to experiment: -Less coal/more coal -Less tobacco/more tobacco -Fluffier Pack/Denser Pack -Smaller holes in the foil/larger holes -More holes/less holes -Thicker foil (such as Reynolds HD or Alcan HD) or multiple layers of regular foil A method that has worked for me, and a few others, in just about every bowl with just about every tobacco (Tangiers requires some tweaks to this for traditional bowls), is to: -Lightly sprinkle the tobacco into the bowl until it is evenly piled up above the outer edge of the bowl by about 1-2 centimetres. -Then, using the palm of your hand, press the tobacco down so it's even with the top of the bowl. You can use your fingers to push it down a bit more if necessary. This method will teach you HOW MUCH tobacco to use and also, about how dense your pack should be. Obviously, this is just a basis, you can experiment to find what works best for you. If you were already wasting tobacco, it can't hurt to waste a little more on your road to the perfect bowl. Once you get a good bowl, make sure you remember exactly what you did so that you can try and replicate it.
hughe3jj
I tried everything you said, and also watched chrees video and it all helped, I still think I am having some packing issues. I am working on it and only smoking 2 bowls a day now really helps, usually lasting me at 1hr and 30 mins.

There is still room to improve on that (I usually get about 2-3 times that), but you're still learning. How many rounds of coals are you using in that time and what coals are they? Do you touch the coals once you put them on the bowl (such as to break the ash off them)? How do you have the coals laid out on the bowl? If you could post some pictures we could really help you a lot more. Post some pics of your bowl before you put the foil on, then another once you've poked the holes, then another with the coals on. Another thing you should consider: if you put the coals on the bowl and you hear sizzling, take them off. Let the coals cool down a little bit (a min or two), then put them back on the bowl. Sizzling sounds or smoke rising out of the top of the bowl while you're not puffing are bad signs and tell you that you have too much heat on the bowl. It's better to be too low on the heat and not be getting big smoke for like 20 min then to overheat it too soon and have a bowl that lasts half the time it should. hughe3jj
ahh gotcha. I will be doing this tomorrow for every one. I did not realize it took this much effort to smoke a hookah, I would (when I first started) take the coals right off the stove straight to the foil and it would roast it and I would wonder why it only last a hour or so IF THAT usually after 20 mins or so it was tasting so terrible I would just make another bowl :/ Tomorrow I will post pics. I have been packing my Tangiers funnel by break my shisha down and sprinkling it in and then somewhat packing it to the side and the using the palm technique to pack it further. Then let the coals turn bright red on both side, then I would ash them in my tray for about 10 mins, I was still hearing sizzling but didn't think it was a big deal. Now I know. I will do better tomorrow and post some pics. Thanks again.
mustang67n
If you have a certain time you'll be doing it and a cam.. you could get in TC and try to have someone in there with you. vid is 1000 times better than pics! pics are good too
hughe3jj
Yeah that is true, I am not sure how to access TC, but I am sure I can figure it out, and the pictures would take an awful amount of time :/

agunn1231
TC is definitely the faster route... as everyone else said just experiment...i can honestly say that the people here helped me out a lot. my bowl packing was awful until i found this place. and recently my bowls have gone down hill too as i stopped smoking for a long time. you will only continue to improve though. best of luck
Twitchy
Is this just out of opinion? I like my Vortex bowl, it works a hell of a lot better than the stock bowl that came with my MYA. I will definitely pick up one of the ones you listed, but my Vortex is working plenty good at the moment. When I was having issues it was with my stock bowl, but I wonder how could it could be with the Tangiers bowls Thanks bud.
vortex is a great bowl compared to a mya bowl LOL but yeah a tang phunnel is a great bowl to have they work great and are very well made
