Snowdrifter
As the title suggests. I am a budget hookah smoker who is looking for the cheapest coal per bowl. I don't care whether or not it is quick light or natural, nor do I care about how often I need to ash - so long as it stays together enough to not get in the bowl when I pick it up
Epoch
Silver Flint coals suck, but they are affordable. Chreees
Just stick with a good, reputable coconut coal. I personally recommend Coconara, Cocomazaya, or Razans. Coconut coals are the longest duration coal, lasting about an hour (Cocobricos, sold mostly in the UK it seems, are bigger and can last near two hours), and can work for any tobacco on any bowl (granted some coals work best for some tobaccos, like Golden Canary Japs work best for Tangiers tobacco). I've tried many different types of coals, from Exoticas to Japs, and keep coming back to coconut coals every time. Okay, so, back to price, though... You don't ever want to just go with whatever is the cheapest. Coal is something you want to make sure you get something good. Heat management is a crucial aspect in making sure you have a good session, so don't skimp out on quality. I've been in rough times where I couldn't afford much, but trust me, for the few dollars you'd save, it's worth just going ahead and paying a tad more and getting something you know won't let you down. Also, everyone here is different and likes different things. Over time, after trying different kinds, you'll determine what you like best.
mushrat
if you have a burner, then bulk natural lump hardwood charcoal. 5 to 10 bucks for a 20 pound bag. stay away from mesquite as it gives n odd flavour to your smoke. Venger
I have been buying starlight nats (coconut coals) 36 for 3 bucks a box. I use one or two per bowl and they last 45-60 min. with a wind cover. Ray
DrSmokes
Razans are pretty cheap...especially if you buy his deals. I think he has something like buy 3 get 1 free. And for me, living in FL, I get $5 shipping so it really helps.
Stuie
Easy Lite Japs are pretty affordable. not sure who has them. If you buy in bulk like Exotica Japs http://www.ebay.com/itm/24-96-PC-Japanese-Silver-CHARCOAL-COAL-4-Hookah-Hooka-/260311597576?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item3c9bc7c208 that ends up being just under 9 cents a coal and it's free shipping. They smell AWFUL when lighting but they are fine once they are on the bowl.
Snowdrifter
I ended up going for the sale on Leonaras from 5starhookah. 4 bucks for a 120 pack? Count me in!
Stuie
Let us know how they are. I remember when Shishaco came out they did similar deals... there is reason only one vendor carries them.
Snowdrifter
They seem fairly equivalent to the flat coconaras, although minus some quality control. They aren't all uniform (although don't deviate by much either) and a few like to crack just a tiny bit when heating. But beyond that, I would compare them to the coconaras in terms of smoking experience. I keep referencing to the coconaras because those are the only other natural coal I've used. Urloc
I can not buy hookah coals here so i buy compressed coconut coal bars and cut them myself. They are like 1buck per pound.
