Buying My First Hookah!

Recommended Posts

For years I have been smoking hookah at the local hookah bar. I've finally moved to a place that has a porch where I can smoke it outside! I was searching and searching and decided to just buy a small hookah until I find a hookah that I really want to invest in.

It's just a 12" and it was only $9. So if it is a total failure, at least I didn't put out a heavy amount of money into it. Plus, it's really only for me so I don't need an extravagant hookah as of right now- but I'd like to have a large one for entertaining purposes.

I was wondering if I could have some help with this. I have a few questions.

1) I saw a hose on ebay that is 62" long. I can't use this on my tiny hookah, right? I didn't know if this effected the smoke session or not, but I'm obsessed with pink and the hose that I was looking at is pink WITH a fur-like case.

2) Any suggestions for a hookah (moderatly sized, probably nothing over 28") that hits well with multiple hoses attached?

I've also heard that smaller hookahs give you a shorter session, but if there's a larger bowl, doesn't that counter act?

Thanks so much for the help!

My motto is, if you going to buy something for the first time buy it right. KM's are pretty good and so are Mya's for the price, they hit really well too. I wouldn't go for a multihose hookah because it really doesn't work that great, go for a single hose hookah.

I'm going to go ahead and advise you not to purchase that hookah if you haven't already. It's total crap. Go ahead and save up for a good quality brand like Mya Saray.

Link to the hose? It depends on how big the hose port tip is on the hose. Those pumpkins have really tiny hose ports, so chances are probably no, it will not fit. Usually the crappy Chinese hoses are the only ones that will fit them. Again, a good reason to buy a better hookah (Mya Saray will fit many different brands of hoses).

For multiple hosers, again, Mya Saray is a winner. All of the small ones can be adapted up to two hoses, and the Mono and Vento models can be adapted up to four.

Other good brands to look at are Khalil Mamoon, Temsah, Farida, Magday Zaidan (all Egyptian brands), Al Nawras and Nour (Syrian brands), or Elmas (the "best" Turkish brand). For best price though, since that seems to be what you are concerned about, Mya Saray is your best bet:

I have a MYA econo Gyro, Good little starter hookah. 24", comes in pink ;) and has up to 4 hose ports (you have to buy adapters and only 3 will go on with purge valve). The one thing about this is that it rusts. All chinese pipes do. I clean religiously after every sesh (no overnight to ghost) and still rust. It still works and smokes alright a year later though!

as for the 62" hose, it will probably fit. Hookah Hose ports are fairly universal and the only thing youd have to do is get a new grommet to make it fit.

Only the Econo line has quality issues like you are having. Mya Saray shouldn't even be making them, but they do for whatever reason. It's worth just saving up the bit extra to go for the better quality ones. Should've mentioned that in my first post...

I was looking at a few of the Myas. :] I really like them. They're quite appealing. I'm not looking into cutting corners with the hookah. I just saw the $9 hookah and figured I had nothing really to loose than maybe money to buy a 100g of shisha. Plus my Amazon Prime membership expires soon and I wanted to take advantage on the free 2-day shipping. I'll look into the Myas.

My friend (though not the greatest reference considering he's not very resourceful) has a small $6 hookah that smokes AMAZINGLY. This thing pulls so much smoke it's insane, so I was kind of going off of what his was like. But like I said, I have no hesitations with putting in a good amount of money to a quality hookah. I just needed a push in the right direction towards decent ones. :]

Thanks!

Also, do you particularly have a favorite brand of shisha? I know a lot of lounges that I go to use Fantasia, but there are also some that use Starbuzz. Is this just a personal preference thing? Or is there a quality brand out there? I planned to use Starbuzz considering they have the most of my favorite flavors, but I know some of the hookahs that I want to order come with different brands of Shisha that I can try. Just wanting opinions.

Thanks you guys!

Oh and here is the hose link:

Like I said, I'm not going for the cheaper route. I just really like the furry coat on the hookah hose. Maybe I can get a higher quality hose and see if they have a hookah hose cover similar to this one?

Edit: I think I'm leaning towards the Mya Diva. :] It comes in pink, too! And with some shisha from that website as well as coals (though those are all minor purchases, it's nice to have it all in one place). I'm just bummed that there isn't a case for the 16" one. :/

Do they sell 16" hookah cases? I don't want it to get dinked around when I'm traveling with it.

If you really want to order off of Amazon, here you go: http://www.amazon.co...ya saray hookah

It even comes in pink, and has a cage. :)

That hose doesn't look to be the best quality. I'd go for a good washable hose- http://www.hookah-sh...ccessories.html . But if that pink one doesn't cost much and you want it, I say go for it. Nogoom also makes a pink washable hose: http://5starhookah.c...m-Hose-NAGO.htm . I've heard good things about Nogoom, so look into that.

EDIT: I know Mya makes cases for some of their hookah models, but not sure where to buy one.

As for good tobacco brands, my two favorites are Tangiers (I personally enjoy the Lucid line most) and Nakhla. For more info on Tangiers, check out the link in my signature. Some other good brands you might like are Al Fakher, Starbuzz of course, Social Smoke, Romman, Al Tawareg, etc.
