Quitting Smoking Cigs And Hookah

Recommended Posts

Hey everyone,

Long time no post lol. Basically I'm on day 6 of being without cigarettes and I'm ready to kill someone. Was thinking of firing up a hookah just to maybe quell the cravings/irritability. Anyone aware of whether or not this is going to be a problem in the long run of quitting smoking cigarettes?

Thanks for any input

Well, I was a heavy cig smoker in the past, we are talking of 2 to 3 packs per day and I quitted.

I have started smoking hookah lately, and I never crave for a cig at all... actually I think the smell is disgusting now.

Same here. I didn't smoke cigarettes that much but I really did enjoy cigarettes. Now I still have one here and there but I don't enjoy the taste flavor or smell of them.

With that being said, I don't think hookah would be very useful as an aid to quit smoking. You need to get out of the grip of Nicotine and hookah is just going to keep you hooked.

You've gone six days so far, you can stick with it. Also, every day that you don't smoke is a day further away from addiction. If you do smoke just to get that nicotine, you're back where you started.

If you do need to do something to prevent your self from killing someone, smoke some herbal or stones. You'll get the calming deep breathing, the clouds and everything else that is enjoyable about hookah, but you won't be feeding your addiction. And if you can use all that to distract you from your cravings, you may be successful at replacing cigarettes with hookah.

Best of luck to you. Cigarettes will kill you... financially.

i havent been able to figure this one out.

I really only smoke cigarettes if I have tobacco around. If not, i just have a shisha... eventually if i havent had cigs for awhile and then i dont have shisha for a few days its not that big of a deal.

however it seems to come in waves. i'll be alright smoking just Tangiers and DA, then something will happen and I'll start rolling cigs. usually its from either an emotional stressor or i have tobacco from a ritual. then I have leftover tobacco and smoke it til its gone while while my craving for more mu'assel increases too. Then im a fiend. the more i have, the more i want. Eventually I run out of tobacco and calm down with the shisha.

Apparently, fwiw the way my mind processes emotions and cravings is different than the average person...

It'll help if anything. I quit cigs a few months back, was doing over half a pack a day. Smoked dokha and hookah exclusively after that for like 2 weeks, it was so easy to actually complete quit everything after that for 2 more weeks. I gave this time period up to get the nicotine out of my system entirely. I then returned to hookah alone with the occasional, once every two week dokha session. I still only smoke once or twice every 2-3 days and I've created a rule to not get cravings for cigs: no buying tobacco until I finish my 10+ kilos of mo'assel, dokha, cigars, and briar tobacco. Think that'll take me a while...
But that's my experience, just sharing if you were interested in how I personally kicked my cig addiction's ass.

Well I only smoke hookah. Except if I'm out drinking and a friend offers me a cig I'll have one. But to think of hookah being able to supplement the cigarettes is pretty good. If you can smoke hookah instead, I think it would help. I only get the 'need' to smoke hookah when I've had a long day and want to relax. Its more of a mental addiction than a physical one for me. I can go weeks without hookah. I've gone a full month without smoking and wasn't irritable at all. Just think of it as a nicotine patch. You get just enough nicotine to get you over that speed bump. Plus its more enjoyable. :)
