DubbaJohnny
Now, this may be silly but I'm realitivly new to Hookahing. I've purchased natural coals until now where I bought some Al faker QLs. Now my question is do these produce carbon monoxide, etc? Now I realize just about everything does but I mean more so in regards to normal BBQ coals? Are these 'dangerous'? (for lack of a better term..) DJ

KasbahBazaar
What natural coal was it that you normally buy and what made you decide to purchase quick lights? QL coals use an accelerant to light easily but the accelerant used varies from vegetable-based oils to what is basically gunpowder. As far as the primary material that QL coals are made of, that too varies. Given this knowledge, and what is still unknown as well, many prefer to use natural coals to "play it safe" so to speak. [/quote] I figured it was gunpowder. I keep my lighter on it and move it throughout the coal just to be sure that there's none remaining. What made me get those? I ran out of my natural ones (which took FOREVER to light with a big propane torch & needed new ones. They were a buck for 10. I'm a cheap bastard. Coyote
1st- you don't like not knowing what your inhaling so you pack starbuzz? ok. 2nd- I tried those AF QL last night they were aight. didn't notice a lot of taste, strong, not too much ash. I still prefer nats... my new friend at Little Morocco Cafe lit my CH nats for my bowl. 3rd- I would save yourself the labour and get a cheap electric hotplate to light your natural coals. I used lumps a few times, they arent bad but they burn very low and quick. They also make a mess. I like CH coals the best because they burn low, they last longer and don't smell as bad as most coconut coals. Also since coconut coals are uniform cubes or flats they are all done on the hotplate at the same time. All that being said... im currently using fumari which burn mad low, dont last long, have a taste, make a huge mess and are super delicate. but you can light them with a lighter! but then they arent all done at the same time :/ i would really only recommend them for Tangiers.
