insidius
So I ordered a Caravan hose (I think it's a Grand Caravan). I only ordered it because they were out of Nammors (and truth be told, I took a chance on trying a different hose, you never know when you might find something better). So the hose arrives and the mouthpiece is out of the hose, no big deal, I expected as much as they are usually removable. I look inside the handle and the grommet looks a little sketchy and sure enough, the grommet falls right out. So I put the grommet back into the handle and it seems like it should fit snugly judging by the size/shape of it, but it doesn't. When I put the mouthpiece and the grommet into the handle, it's extremely loose, wiggles around a LOT and if you hold the hose upside down, the whole mouthpiece with grommet falls right out. There is NO seal. Ever experienced this? What did you do? I contacted the seller and he says he's sending another grommet, but I have my doubts as to whether it will solve the problem. I'm rather disappointed, as I was hoping to smoke this weekend with my new Obelisk. Atleast I have the Mya hose to fall back on *knocks on wood*

insidius
The mouthpiece is not supposed to be removable.
That's what I thought too when I first saw the hose, then when it popped out so easily, I figured they must be like the nammors and thought nothing of it. When the owner/seller talked to me, he told me the mouthpiece is supposed to be like that (that it comes out), but I'm still not sure because it sure doesn't go back in. Especially since I'm not set up for it and I don't like the idea of spending more money to fix something that should work right to begin with. Coleman
Contact the seller again and say you want to either return or exchange for a new hose. If they aren't the maker of the hose see if you can call a maker and say something. And if none of that works glue. If that fails I have no idea what to tell you

insidius
Looks like the same hose to me. EDIT: Just checked the site and the hose does specificy that it has a detachable mouthpiece, but I'm pretty sure it supposed to be able to go back in, too. Skoozle
Most of the 3 piece hoses I have just use a head gasket to hold the mouth piece in. Look through your stuff and see if you have a thicker head gasket that you can use or even stack on top of the one you have. Similar to fitting a bowl to a stem, or a stem to a base, or a hose to a stem.
Stuie
I have had several over the years. I have one left, that I use as my Cigar/Clove/Pipe Flavor hose. My mouthpiece is removable. Caravan should replace it. They are really good like that. Also Super glue will fix that. Do it all the time for hoses.
insidius
Thanks for the input everyone. You all make this forum a great, friendly place.
Chreees
Yeah, the gasket shouldn't just fall out like that, but the mouthpiece is removable on those. I'd ask for a replacement as well if you don't feel like fixing it yourself. I personally would want a replacement.
insidius
So I just got my Mya Obelisk today and the entire corner of the base was busted open. There's a hole large enough to put my thumb in, not that I would. Guess it's not my week for hookah

insidius
Ok, want to run something by you guys; I need some perspective. I get home today and have a slip from the post office waiting for me saying 'postage is due' for the replacement grommet that the guy is sending me for the faulty hose. ...what? I get sent a faulty hose and now I have to pay postage for the replacement grommet that should have worked all along? So I'm going to write the vendor back, tell him I'm denying the envelope and that I shouldn't have to pay for postage, politely request a replacement hose that actually works as intended, and if he doesn't comply that I'm disputing the charge on my card. Am I out of line? Edited October 10, 2012 by insidius

insidius
He told me he'd already paid for postage and that 'if they try to charge me for postage he'll give me $5 off my next order.' Sounds like he's just trying to get me to order there again. I'll have to go down to the post office and pick this thing up and see what happens. If it was in fact sent from them and the post office does in fact try to charge me, it's getting sent back.
joytron
Honestly, anything less than a brand new hose shipped to your door is not asking enough. You shouldnt have to use an already broken good and you certainly shouldnt have to "fix" his mistake. You have been overly patient and understanding from the start. Arcane
I would ask for a new hose entirely, shipped and free of charge. Mind saying who the vendor is so that we may be informed? Unless you ordered from a banned vendor, then nm...
