JTea
I have owned a few hookahs in the past, a SS nemesis, mya qt, and a few generic hookahs from Dubai. I'm looking to get a larger hookah for college and wondering what a good setup would be. If you could throw me in the right direction as far as the hookah itself, the bowl, and hose would be great. I've been looking into a KM lately but I'm intrigued by some other brands as well. My budget is around $200-$250 for the entire setup (hookah, hose, bowl). I'm also needing some advice as far as coals and shisha. I love playing with smoke so large clouds is a must. Flavor is somewhat important but I'm not too pushy. I'm also looking at vapor stones since it's tobacco-free. Anyways, any input is helpful.

JTea
Out of the KM's are there any particular models you recommend?
Stuie
I like any of the solid brass & Trimetals. Don't like the oxidized or pears, but that's more of an visual thing to me.
agunn1231
I have owned quite a few KM's and smoked from a whole lot more. and all of them smoke wonderfully. it really depends on what you like the look of the best
JTea
Has anyone had any experience with the chiller? And I'm confused on the whole "oxidized" hookah.
agunn1231
I had the chiller. it doesnt do much to cool the smoke. more so just for looks. Unless it's deathly hot outside..then it keeps to smoke a bareable temperatre
Stuie
Chillers are just for looks. I have a KM Sig Ice, got it for looks, only put ice in it once. Oxidized ones is that take a hookah and put a oxidzed black coating over it. If you ever bust out the polish.... bye bye oxidation.
JTea
I live in Texas and smoke outdoors and in my vehicle a lot so the smoke gets very hot and becomes disgusting after awhile, that's why I was wondering.
Stuie
where in Texas? I am off the Red River, 90 days 110+ this year. That seems abit odd, but I don't smoke outdoors much any more. Put ice in the base or grab a Mystique hose Tip or Soguk Hose tip or a Mya Freeze hose (They last about a year then I would get a replacement.) JTea
I'm in Houston, around the Clear Lake area.
Stuie
You Houston boys don't know what hot is. We have been on water rationing since June... and still are. Can't rain enough up here before the heat takes it away. (just poking fun at ya) I hate humidity, it kills me so I feel for ya. Look at getting a freeze attachment or ice in teh base. Crushed ice will get it colder faster, cubed won't be as cold but will last longer.
JTea
How ironic, it's actually somewhat breezy and it just began to rain over here lol. I've been throwing a bunch of cubed ice in but it tends to melt quickly and the water rises in temperature quickly. I'm going to check out the freeze attatchments. Also, I hate using QL, they burn too quickly and the fumes get me sick. Is there a portable way to light Coconaras?

headhunter
I used to do that but it got really expensive considering I'm a broke college kid lol.
and yet you can spend 200-250 on a new hookah? lol just saying. but at that price i personally would go for an Elmas. They are turkish hookahs that have detail that as far as im considered is the best thus far in the hookah world
JTea
The thing with the hookah is once it's bought, it's bought. Those torches needed to get refilled a lot (3-5 smoke sessions a day outdoors). Do those smoke well? I was looking at the designs and I frankly love it but they were running into the 400s. r1v3th3ad
dont forget to tell him that elmas dont have a purge valve gentlemen
JTea
Does that mean if the smoke becomes stale in the base there's no way to clear it?
Stuie
yep. it means if it's harsh or stale you got to smoke through it brother.
headhunter
yes, you have no way to purge but through good heat management you shouldnt have a problem (or you will learn good heat management quick) and as for staleness of smoke? honestly i have never had something i would call stale from smoking nargile. But maybe thats just me.
Stuie
It's all about the shisha. I was smoking with Indian Villager and I pointed out the Tangeirs Lemon Blossom, really needs to smoke constantly. If it sits too long the smoke is very stale in the base then it's followed by harshness from new smoke. Takes a few clearing pulls to get it back to normal. headhunter
ahh ok ok, makes sense actually now that you explain it, it has happened to me. Just never thought of it as getting stale
