Nerdy
So I noticed something last night. I was smoking away(cane mint) and when I got done I let the bowl and everything cool off before I went to clean it and what not. It dawned on me when I pulled the bowl off that the juices ran down my stem and into the base but not over the foil anywhere meaning the sides. Does this mean I'm using too much tobacco in my pico? Too much heat? Or just right?
Stuie
Little too much tobacco. It's all good though.

I do plan on ordering that small tmrw :-)
Pavo21
well as long as you have good sessions dont worry about the juices
Arcane
Juices running down the sides is perfectly fine. If you go to the Oddessey, you'll find almost every bowl with juices running down the sides. Sometimes it just bubbles over. As long as it's not smoking bad, keep doing what you're doing...unless you're concerned about the 5-7g of tobacco you're overpacking it by.

Since I haven't ever tang before or have ever had anyone else pack a "perfect" bowl for me I don't know where the bar is. It's like I said to coyote ... I've see and read so many packing methods that I am overwhelmed by every thing. I am currently in the process of forgetting everything and just teaching myself. headhunter
I have yet to get tangiers to smoke right after the three bowls I've attempted.
Ok, with just that....we know nada explain how you pack it, how many holes you put in, how deep you put them, how many coals, what type of coals, what type of bowl, smoke type and flavor of the smoke/tobacco this will help us diagnose what is going on Edit: just noticed how long you have been on here sorry if i seemed harsh, i didnt look to see if you were a newb or not Edited October 19, 2012 by headhunter
insidius
No sweat, I've kinda given up for now, I'll try tackling it again later. I've tried, to the T, every widely accepted method I've found here. I can almost get it, but it seems like it usually ends up burned, even with only using one coal. (Using a pico and coconaras). The flavor disappears after only a few puffs and the smoke is weak at first. Then the smoke later picks up but the flavor disappears altogether and is slightly 'harsh' feeling, but not overly so. I'm thinking of trying different coals when I can afford them.
Best idea ever! Not to the OP specifically, but to anyone in general: I think people will find different methods work for them and they will say they're packing the bowls perfectly. Find what works for you and that will be good enough. If you run into problems along the way, that's what we're here for and we provide methods that worked for us or is commonly accepted practice. mustang67n
with my #7 bowl (little bigger than the pico) 2 coals on the edge is just enough. I dont get amazing clouds, but they're decent (comparable to AF) and the flavor is perfect.. and i dont put much thought into the pack.. just kinda grab clumps and drop it in.. usually 3 good clumps is enough
