Base Line Hookah Etiquette

Recommended Posts

Fold mouthpiece back so not pointing at the person receiving

Hookah rotation left hand side (pass the duchy to the left hand side)

If not in use place it on the table to show availability

Never light a cigarette from a hookah coal, disrespectful, ruing flavor
When talking pass the hookah hose hose. DON'T TALK WHILE YOU HAVE THE HOSE.
If you are socially smoking, think the hookah hose as the listening stick you used to have in grade school.

Respond with any other tips you know of!

all very nice. But ive been smoking with Arabs for years and they dont fold the hose, they pass it any way they want, they smoke it on the table, on the floor, anyplace they want, and they are constantly lighting their cigs off their coals...

We have talked about these rules in the past and while they are a decent guidline, I know very few people who follow them. Now, Showing the bottoms of your shoes by crossing your legs...that'll piss em off. :)

You should have seen some of his other posts. Guy thinks he can school us on hookah just because he has some Facebook page that magically makes him legit... :)

the only things i care about is holding the hose while you tell a story, lighting cigs off the coals and ashing ur cig in my tray..

i notice a much heavier cigarette flavor when a cig is lit on my coals.

and i dont like cigarettes so i dont let people ash in my tray.. find your own ashtray, dick!! lol

My only rule with the hookah is "don't fuck it up". This entails the following: Don't break the vase. Don't tip the pipe over. Don't drop coals on the carpet. If you knock a coal over on the bowl, you fix it so it doesn't burn the bowl (this only really applies to stonehenge method). Basically, keep the pipe smoking good and don't do anything to fuck that up and i'm cool with whatever else you do.

My only rule: I get to kick you in the balls if you do something stupid when around the hookah.

Did the OP seriously get banned over this?? That's kind of fucked up.

On topic, you best not light your cigarettes off my coals OR ash in my tray. I also know some very traditional smokers who insist upon folding the hose when passing and some even a execute a light tap on the back of the hand when taking said hose, a sign of respect. Going by traditional "rules" again it is a disrespect to let the hose sit on the table rather it must be held or draped on the hookah so as not to let the tip touch any surfaces. Hookahs belong on the floor, not the table (again going by the traditional rule set) and this is mostly for convenience of the smoker, since generally hookahs are not shared among Arab smokers the way they are shared by a group of three or more smokers in an Americanized lounge setting, but also so the ash produced isn't on the level of the backgammon table, tea, or food. And yes, if you are going to talk, pass the hose. My brother is very talkative and talks about 80% of the time the hose is in his hand but what causes me to lose it was this habit he had of holding the hose by clamping it against his side using his arm where it would almost be in his armpit... I put a stop to that very quickly and told him if he wants to keep armpitting the hose he needs to setup his own. Generally I'm extremely laid back so if you actually get me to say something to correct you if you're smoking w/ me it would be wise to proceed very carefully the rest of the session because chances are I'm VERY upset if I actually said something, lol

No, they got banned because they were promoting their stupid Facebook page in all their other threads/posts they made. I allowed this one to stay because 1) it was the ONLY post they made in which they didn't spam their stupid Facebook page, and 2) Mushrat and Hassouni had already made posts on it, and I didn't want to just throw away their posts by hiding the thread.
