Thing im still trying to figure out properly is cooking time for washing and a good flavor. I recently did a batch with flavor syrup(vanilla) and got next to no flavor. might be the syrup might be something else. Try scenting oils that might be what is in for flavoring gotten many of emails saying they got decent results with oil based flavoring . Not sure if it is probably the best thing to use but not sure on health risk .

Also if boiling the tobacco don't forget to make sure its dry before combining it with flavor glycerine flavor and honey otherwise they wont bind right to the tobacco

biggest troubles I had was water, and getting the tobacco to absorb the wet mix. I probably didn't use the right leave though.

I used coffee filters with Brawny wrapped on the outside

Reading this thread last night it occurred to me to approach it from a cooking angle. If you've ever cooked greens southern style I'd think cooking tobacco would be somewhat similar except you're going for sweet rather than savory.

I'd start with shredded raw tobacco and add water only enough to cover. Then as it came to a boil I'd turn it into syrup - either simple syrup through the addition of sugar if I wanted "unflavored" sweetness, or honey, corn syrup, etc. I'd let it simmer down slow until it's thick (most of the syrup has evaporated and cooked into the shredded leaves) then I'd stir in the glycerin and flavorings. I'd use hard candy flavorings because 1) they're intended to be edible, and 2) they're very heat tolerant going into candy at the hard ball stage. Let it sit overnight, and try smoking it. From a cook's point of view this seems most logical. Guess I'm going to have to give in and try it one of these days.

having cooked collards and turnip greens I would have to agree with Rani. you need to rehydrate the tobacco then get the cell walls broken down enough to except the liquid.you also need some salt in the mix. osmosis only occurs when one side of the cell wall has more salt on it than the other. The salt will try to balance itself on both sides of the cell wall and bring in all the flavors and sugars with it.

Yep, forgot to mention the salt. Interestingly enough, a pinch of salt actually makes things sweeter. Hell, Ray and I might be in our respective kitchens over the holidays making up Christmas shisha, lol......... instead of collard greens!
