Clash Of The Silver Tabs

Recommended Posts

So I have decided that I am purely gonna stick to tang, I have a nice little stash already. But I'm honesty kinda tired to getting the knife and hammer to break my coco coals. I got fumari coals as a gift and I loved the ease of them and they offered better smoke sessions for me also. I found a site that have Holden's but they are 15 a pop. I did dee the exoticas and the easy lites ... My question is, which out of those two are better? The exotica silvers or the easy lite silvers?? Or do I not waste my time and go for the goldens ??

I like the Easy Lights. It's been quite a while since I had them.

Exoticas STINK when lighting but they smoke good without running the flavor.

Nobody mentions these buy Social Smoke has some that are pretty decent. they are 3.25 for 128. Smell a little but not like the exoticas.

They are what I used to learn how to light japs properly.

Do they easy lites mess with the taste. I recently have been on a floral binge and don't want to alter taste. I don't mind too much of the lighting smell. The fumaris to me smelled like cinnamon when lighting. The ch nats are like a dying campfire. So if the exoticas perform better I would rather get them even if they as you put it, STINK.

Social smoke ones have not seen, might have to pick them up.

All bad coals can mess with taste. Silver Flint ones that H-S has had on clearance for years do. That's why they can't even dump the things!

Lol, yea I have had my share of bad coals also, but as for the easy lites and exoticas, there is no altered taste or after taste? The reason I ask is I plan to pick up like 10-15 boxes of them. Don't want to mass order shit coal.

if you're going for jap style coals, i say you only have 3 choices.

Canary - I think they're the best. Made of coke. They light easier and faster than Fumari. They do have a distinct taste when being lit off other coals, but subsides within a minute or so. There has been shortages of the coals.

Fumari - I believe this are coke coals too. On par with Canary except for the lighting time/ease. I think they're a bit more available than Canary Goldens too.

Easy-Lite Japs - not made of coke, have a weird taste when light off other coals, super cheap. Susceptible to splintering and exploding.

Exploding?? Erm..uuhh sounds like fun times in the apartment complex haha

I think ima do the goldens. Plenty of you have said they are best, so might as well go for em. I found a place that has em still :-)

Goldens and Fumaris are made by the exact same company, but I've only had GCs so I can't really comment on if the composition is the same. I do like GCs though, great for Tangiers. For everything else they are a pain (since they burn out so quick) and the heat of cocos are more desirable for the other tobaccos I smoke.

Ugh, japs are excellent heat for Tangiers, but man do they annoy me... I'd rather spend a little bit less in the long run and just have to get off my ass once every hour to light new coals, whereas japs you have to be tending to the coals every 20 mins or so (if you do the piggybacking method, which you will want to do if you use these coals). And yeah, as Mark said, you won't want to use them with tobacco brands other than Tangiers.

Golden Canaries are the best, but Fumaris come in at a close second. All the rest I've tried have been garbage.

I think Sultan Japanese coals are really good. They don't smell when lighting or leave a taste.

I use the easy lights by inhale exclusively, they r te coals we use at our hookah lounge, cheap, last a good amount of time and light quick and do not add any weird taste to the hookah.

I use Fumari. That is what is used at the lounge.

I like Golden Canary a lot too. but they are too expensive.

I swear that Fumari had more smell but someone I trust said that it was the other way around. I haven't had GC in over a year now.

Fumaris are expensive too. I'm not sure where you're getting that GCs are more expensive than Fumaris... You must be getting a hookup somewhere that makes them cheaper for you, not us. Guess that's an advantage of being a Tangiers rep, huh? :)

Anyway, links for sites for us normal folks to buy these coals from to prove my point-

Fumaris: http://www.fumari.com/hookah-charcoal/fumari-odorless-charcoal-96

GCs (Note that they are $11.95 if you buy 5 or more. I took advantage of this deal once, very nice of Neiman to offer it): http://ultimatehookah.com/Golden-Hookah-Charcoal-GC.htm

Fumaris smell more than GCs. I was using both at the same time, so I was able to compare them side-by-side. You don't have to trust me on that, though. Get both and see for yourself.

Anyway, no matter which one you use, the only pro in my opinion is they are perfect heat for Tangiers. For the longevity, price, and less hassle, I'd rather go with a good coconut coal brand.

Hmm... HJ has GC 50 cents higher. Maybe there was a price spike?

I dunno, you're more likely to know that than me. :)

I don't go by HJ pricing, btw. I go by where ever the product can be found the cheapest, which, right now, is UltimateHookah.com.

  • 3 weeks later...
I'm going to pick up a bunch of canaries from Neiman. Can anyone enlighten me on about how many single pieces I would be going through in a 2-3 hour session? I would be using a Tangiers Small bowl. Would I be using 2 or 3 coals per round? I'm assuming 3?

I've tried the fumari's before, but it seems if I'm going to be ordering quite a few, GC's are the way to go.

I'm thinking atleast 3 GCs on a small (it's been a while since I used GCs), depending on how you like your smokeand how you pack. You're going to be adding fresh coals about every 30 minutes so at least 6/hour.

Will you be lighting then off of the lit ones or all on a coil burner?

I never tried piggybacking when I used Fumari, but if it's the most efficient method I can certainly learn it. I have no problem lighting off a coil though, I usually leave mine on the entire time I smoke for lighting coco's so it wouldn't be an issue.

Which do you think is better?
