I must say, breaking up the tobacco as much as possible and sprinkling it in about .5 inches over the bowl, then pushing it down with your palm and then 2-3 coconut coals depending on the brand works wonderfully with these bowls. Same clouds a phunnel would produce, and much better taste, at least with Nakhla. And I do agree with Hass, mizo, af, and other touchier brands 2 coals does the job or 2 laying down 1 standing up, og nakhla, 3 coals flat on the edges to start seem to work fine.

With ccn flats I use 3 and stack them pyramid style to start.windcover and adjust them as needed. Which isn't that much..but after 40 minn you do break the pyramid and put all three coals on the foil.

Cocomayazas are the perfect coal for these bowls. Slap 3 on and do nothing but put the windcover on in 40 minn.

Useing Leonaras which are like 75% the size ccn. I'll double stack 4 to start. So 2x2 stacked on top of each other.

Meaning 2 flat on the bowl and one on top of the 2 coals? And you use the wind cover to start as well?

Yeah ...right on top of each other...as for windcover..I'll usually start with it on to let it heat up faster. But then take it off once its going...then you got 4 coals to play with...but I don't really move them around much...as they die down ...

I am going to give this a try, and I am also going to try 2 coals flat and one standing and compare. I did find 3 coals is a must rather than 2 but with 3 flat I REALLY had to put them on the edge of the bowl for it to not be hot so clouds weren't great until the coals died down a bit and I was able to move them in a bit.
