GenuineHookahs
Personally sometimes I'd rather not go through the trouble in getting my natural woods lit. But if I know ill be doing hookah for awhile, or if I am with a bunch of my buddies and we have 2 or 3 multi hose hookahs out, I'll whip out the natural wood and we'll use them. I really like the wood over the QL though, but the QL are more convenient. What do you guys think?

GenuineHookahs
I have never really tried Japanese, if you've used 3 kings how do they compare? I heard japanese are cleaner then other types of charcoal, but I cant say I've tried them
Sonthert
Ashes better, less sulfur, less residual flavor/smell. I found three kings harsher.

mushrat
I prefer bult natural coals to anything else, but they are indeed a pain in the arse..so I use finger coals. I'd rather not smoke than use a quicklite..but then again I've never been in a situation where I had that decision to make...
xpimpitox
yea i have a roll of 3 kings still and id rather not smoke than use it. when i go natural, i use lazzari but thats when im gonna smoke for a while for the fact that it takes forever to light and the non-uniform pieces area pain in the ass sometimes...makes for the best sessions however. any other session i use japanese quicklights which im runnin out of...tangiers could you spare any? aronparsons
I use both Japanese and 3K QLs. The Japanese coals are better for heat management and flavor/smell, but it they don't burn as hot from my experience so more are required. I have 3Ks around from a bulk order a while ago but have been using the Japanese coals more lately; I think the biggest disadvantage they have is the cost though (for good ones, i.e. Canary). xpimpitox
yea they do cost more which kinda sucks but when compared to in quality with the imitation japanese coals its well worth the money. i have an almost full box of diamante japan style coals and ill only use it for in between ordering canary's or not smoke at all...those thing ash like crazy and dont last for beans...give of a slightly bad flavor as well. DizzyGuy
How much japanese coals do you use on a bowl? 1 stick of 4 broke in half or what?
xpimpitox
with tangiers i end up using a stick and break them into the 4 individual pieces. i use 3 to start and add a 4th by then its time to switch bowls. with everything else i end up using just 3, starting with 2 adding a 3rd. nuschultz
When I use the jap coals I break a stick of 4 into 2 sticks of 2, use 1 then add the second.
