Felin
Hello all, joined this because I can't find any information anywhere to help really. I've been having problems with my Coconaras either scorching my shisha too quickly. Originally I set everything up following the guide posted by edit seen here: Video edited out I found this forum and attempted pretty much every solution listed as well. Smoking out of various hookahs with a ceramic vortex bowl, current shisha is Starbuzz Coco Jumbo. Things I've tried: Less and more shisha Less and more holes Three full coals Three full coals with two flat and one on the side Two full coals Two half coals Three half coals Two sheets of foil One sheet of foil Nothing I do seems to work at all. Sadly I have nothing to take pictures or videos with right now. I hope I can get these going, I had to wait like a month and a half for the shop I frequent to have any Cocos in stock. ChicagoRSX
I'm wondering if your bowl isn't retaining too much heat? Is it a no-name Chinese vortex? Do you have the issues when using another bowl?

Felin
It is, yeah. Like a ceramic vortex. I honestly didn't think bowl brands mattered that much. It still does it on other bowls, however. Quicklights work fine though, which bugs me a tiny bit, Edit: Ah, sorry about that. I just figured having an idea of how I was packing my bowl would help. I'll be sure not to do that again. Edited November 14, 2012 by Felin

I've never used a vortex, but this was my method for all starbuzz when i used to smoke it.. fluffpack the tobacco into the bowl (take small pinches out of the container, and pull the tobacco apart and just drop it in, do not touch the tobacco after you've dropped it, just let it set iteslf it the bowl, continue with the pinches until the bowl is full to the rim and even slightly over it) using 1 sheet of regular foil (some prefer HD) cover the bowl and pull it tight. The foil can and will touch the tobacco, this is ok. Poke your holes, If I used a toothpick, the holes would be about 1/2 centimeter apart from each other filling the entire foil screen with holes. then, i'd use TWO coconaras, (make sure they're fully red all over) one on each side of the bowl, and maybe hanging off a little to start. this method would take between 5-10 pulls to get solid smoke, but after that it would smoke for the longevity of the tobacco (usually a bit less than 1 round of coals with SB for me) with no harshness. Chreees
^Go with what Nate here said. Either you're not packing the tobacco properly, or you're not applying the heat properly. Only thing I can think to add is if it's still not working for you after trying the above, then try cutting your Coconaras into halves (link in my sig on how to do that). Keep us updated. Felin
Alright, sorry for the delay, ended up passing out early last night. I've just set up my baby Black Snow as instructed, so far so good. If I have any more issues I'll try to snag a camera for you guys. Thanks for the help! Felin
Just an update. I've gone through the first set of coals with no issue. I am going to clean everything out right now but I have a feeling some of the shisha went uncooked. If that is the case I will try a second set of coals next time and let you guys know how it goes.
