M3_Power
Is there a good seal on the bowl and grommet?
EvansLight
cant think of anything i do diffrently with my qt than i do with my regular egyptian. only thing i can think of is your doing something diffrent just cause of the size, and you thought u had to. Other than that just normal set up should work.
nuschultz
Heres the setup:Airtight QT, bowl of Romman Cherry, 1 golden coal. The base is water, filed to about 3/4 inch above the stem with cold water. At first I was getitng really thin smoke, now im getting slightly thicker smoke but it is super harsh. Hookah_bob2
Have you tried other shisha? Try filling the base with a little bit more water. Also, try breaking the coal in half and placing each piece on opposite sides of the bowl. Are you using foil or screens? If foil, are you double wrapping?
NorthEastSmoker
I second the question regarding the foil/screens.. 3 golden coal halves always work for me to start it.. heck, I get great smooth smoke with 2 whole coals on my QT's stock head, I just need to be on top of the ball with heat managment.. I do all of this with a single layer of thin aluminum foil, 15 or so large toothpick holes in the middle of it.Also, maybe a little more water would help you out? With my QT, I find that the best water level is about 1/4-1/2" below the ridge of the base, where it changes angle back towards the stem. This puts my stem about 1 - 1 1/8" underwater
nuschultz
Im out of foil, so currently a screen. I have never had luck with screens, so I am hoping that foil will solve the problem.Ill drop some more water in. I think that 1 Poland Spring bottle is just right. Also, I need to get my Fumari Fruit Punch from the girlfriends place. I have never had a bad smoke on that. NorthEastSmoker
ahh, if you've never grasped the knack of screens, then that's your problem.. they're a finicky beast, even from one bowl to another. Go get thee some thin foil and smoke away.
Scalliwag
I have never got a even half-assed decent smoke with screens. As soon as I put the foil on and drop the same lit coals on top it fixes it every time.
mushrat
Its your heat, nothing to do with the qt..screens change everything.Important safety tip thoug, make sure the ballin your purge valve is loose before purging, if its stuck the stem is so short the water will guyser out the top. Tap the valve before blowing...
Calcartman
[quote name='Scalliwag']I have never got a even half-assed decent smoke with screens. The only time i have annoyance is if the coal is not fully lit, it seems to practically die unless you puff it until it is.But i light a coal (usually two); let it completely light, and BAM perfect smoke. unleashtheclown
I find that using an air soft bb doesnt stick in the purge valve as much as the metal one, just a suggestion
