Tangiers Funnel bowl - my 2 cents

Recommended Posts

I thought I should share my opinion on the new bowl...I like it. It smokes better then my Mya bowl. I first tried the 5x5 hole pattern and rotating the foil, this worked okay. Now I use 2 rings of large holes and have found this to work best for me. Also, using 2 or more small coals and rotating them around the edges works well. You have to pack a large bowl in order for the funnel hole to keep from being sealed by the foil. These requires more shisha then I would like to use in 1 bowl but, the good thing is- Since the bowl keeps the liquid from escaping you can leave the bowl and come back to it later, the next day if you would like. It also keeps your hookah cleaner.Overall I recommend this bowl for everyone.Also- I mixed Tangiers Red Tea with about 15% fumari grape, and it it very yummy.

Tangiers:I did some searching and was unable to come up with any answers on how to make your own shisa. Is there any way you could write a small tutorial on how to mix your own shisha? Also, what type of Tobacco do you use?I would really appreciate it since i live in Canada where an $8 box of shisha coming through customs costs me $20CDN in taxes :(

well i mean making shisha in the most basic form involves just a couple ingredients.1. tobacco (dried preferably not shredded like ciggarette tobacco)2. molasses/honey/corn syrup (slows burning and imparts some flavor)3. glycerine (what "smokes" so much in shisha)4. flavoring agents.(duh)asking him what proportions he uses and what flavors would be like asking coca cola for their recipe. not gonna happen. id suggest just experimenting.just a guess but i would try(by volume) 1 part tobacco, 2 parts molasses(etc), 1/2 part glycerine. flavor till it tastes good.i just made that up but it seems like it would be approximately the right consistency. the only way to know for sure is to experiment.

I found this on my harddrive, it was a good attempt. But I could not find good flavors around.Better luck ... Same problem, I am in Canada and with the new freakin laws, it is harder to get shisha across.anyways, good luck ..How to Make Homemade Shisha?Ingredients: •  Organic Molasses.•  Bottle of Glycerin.•  Natural tobacco leafs (Canadian U CUT).•  Honey.•  Food preservatives.•  Fruit flavors (You could find in some smoke shops, i found it in a place that sells some weed equipments)Method:1.  Rinse about 50g of tobacco in water and then drain water and dry the tobacco by squeezing.2.  Chop the tobacco into very small pieces; I prefer making them very fine to make the shisha feel like Al-Fakher.3.  Create the shisha sauce by: a.  Adding 3 table spoons of molasses.b.  Adding 2 table spoons of honey.4.  Add tobacco and mix very well.5.  Spread the mixture, and then add dried apple pieces.6.  I will try adding "food flavors" but I kept it simple the first time.7.  Add 2 spoons of Glycerin.8.  Now, mix everything together very well.9.  Let it sit for 10 minutes.10.  If the mix is too moist I will stir the mixture in a pan with low/medium heat, or I just squeezed it a little to get the excess moist.11.  If it dries or needs add more Glycerin and mix again.12.  Let it cook in the 225-275 F range (105-135C) in the oven.13.  Let it, add food preservatives to it.14.  Let it dry for a couple of days.15.  This was a little moister than a regular shisha; I needed more coals than usual to get it running. Results:Feel and Texture: Middle way between Al-Fakher and Nakhla. I did not clean the tobacco from some of those stems. It was as moist as the button of the Jar of the Cherry Al-Fakher.Taste and Smoothness: The first 10 minutes of smoking tasted good, no specific taste, I could not taste the apples, it was smooth and it felt like smoking a clean good shisha. I would rate it 3/10 for taste and 8/10 for smoothness. It lost any taste for about 15 minutes after that. To my surprise, the taste of molasses and honey started to appear again after that. In General: The session lasted for 40 minutes (I ran out of coals and was too lazy to get up and light more). When I took off the foil, it had about 30% left in it of un-smoked tobacco. The amount I made was enough for like 3-4 medium bowls.Next time: I will go to a smoke shop near my workplace and buy some of those little bottles that are fruit flavors you could use on cigarettes, and add some to my mixture and see what happens there. Also, I will not use apples. Also, I will cook in the oven. I will let the tobacco dry well before smoking (two days).

You have to pack a large bowl in order for the funnel hole to keep from being sealed by the foil.
Couldn't this be solved by just making the outer rim a tid bit higher than the funnel rim??
The outer rim is a little bit higher. But when you are moving coals around the foil tends to sink in a little bit. Also, tangiers shisha smokes better if you use a full bowl, no matter what bowl.

Put a mini wire screen filter (like the one to the left of the dime) on top of the funnel and you could pack it however you want. There are screen filters for water hoses and other plumbing related stuff at the hardware store BTW that would do the same thing.
