Papeet
Just out of curiosity, I always make sure the water line is just above the bottom of the stem. Is this good? just guessing considering you can fit more smoke in the vase.
fineout
the rule of thumb is 1/2-1" above the bottom of the stem, i usually go closer to an inch, the more you put in, the draw will be a bit restricted and maybe it might be a little smoother if theres more water to filter..but im not sure. headhunter
fineout has it about right 1/2-1" is the rule of thumb makes for a better smoke imo.
king_lunchb0x
just don't put to much..or else you will pull water into the hose* edit: wrong term whoops Edited November 18, 2012 by king_lunchb0x
Chreees
You can put as much or as little as you like. More is going to restrict the pull, less is going to make it more open. But yes, rule of thumb is ~1" submerged. Tapatalk'd via iPhone
â€On
I personally get the best results when my water level is exactly 21/32" above the stem.

Bawhee
yeah, metric system for the win! though honestly just notice what feels better to you depending on how the draw changes really, smoke a couple times and change water level each time

Like, I think the unecessary complexity of imperial really helps to flavor things up. Fractions make the smoke thicker I think.
Bawhee
You know Ty, the thing to do is determine the exact temperature of the water and based on that determine the density and follow up with choosing your water hight from that... and the metric system might be more appropriate? Keep in mind you have to determine the base density of your tap water or use distilled water to be able to make these calculations accurate... Good luck! â€On
Yes, yes, if we're going to do this, we do it right. No more childs play. I think I will need to factor in the shape of the vase as well, as some designs may create more air currents than others which may create a negative pressure offset allowing for the use of less water. Bawhee
Both shape and size of the vase, and also make sure the temperature of the room you do this in is controlled!
Arcane
Don't forget the consideration for tap, bottled, chlorinated or mountain spring water. to the OP: I put in as much water as possible without it bubbling into my hose port.
