SmokeyWhit
Not sure if it's been talked about (I'm sure it has)...but I haven't been here in awhile. When friends come over and they set the hookah up they do a great job. But then when they start smoking I see one key mistake that is made over and over again. Too much ashing. Constant coal rotation is key...but you don't want to ash it too often. Having some ash on their keeps the coals at a good temperature...when you start ashing it gets them really hot. Instead don't ash them and if you want to add some more heat you can wrap a little foil around the boil which will give it a little boost. But I'm sure this has all been talked about. You can tell me I'm full of shiz...or agree. But I'm speaking from my own personal experiences. Happy Turkey Day to all! Cheers
Chreees
How do you prevent ashing if you constantly rotate the coals? I hardly touch my coals at all (mainly just nudge them in towards the center every now and then). The ash acts as a great insulator to maintain heat well, and not fiddling with them all the time means they last a good bit longer. SmokeyWhit
Maybe rotate was the wrong word? I don't flip them if that's what you mean. I slide them little by little to cover all areas of the bowl. But I think you catch my drift. Ashing= bad
Chreees
Ah okay. Yeah, I agree, people ash too much when they really don't have to. Tapatalk'd via iPhone
fuckthatvincekid
I barely ever rotate my coals, I just don't find it necessary really, the coals heat the bowl rather evenly (granted I'm using a crown micro.) Am I really missing out or do other people do this too..

I put mine on directly across from each other starting on the edges, then slightly move them in as I smoke. The new round of coals go on the untouched spots on the bowl, and I repeat the whole process like I did with the first round. Rambo
working at a lounge I see this constantly and other stuff that to me ruins the bowl. I usually plop my coals down and flip once or twice then add a coal when needed. One of our coal guys insists on beating on the bowl when he changes coal to get the unburnt stuff on top, and to me that makes it burn alot faster. I usually just softly blow the bowl out and that's what gives me the best results.

agunn1231
i only ash when the heat is too low and i know i a wind cover wont get the job done, usualy near the end of the round, ash the coals and throw the wind guard on and get some thicker smoke for the last 10 or so minutes before it is time to get the next round started
