over9000sins
i have read many other threads about this topic and have seemingly tried everything to my ability, yet my problem remains. I see no issue in how i set up my hookah, i lightly sprinkle the shisha to almost the brim, poke small holes on the foil (shiny side down) and use 2 coconara coals on both ends of the bowl (standard bowl btw) this is my 2nd hookah i've bought, the first one being a small cheap hookah that i had no problems with using the same methods that i use now. this one i bought maybe a month a go is what i'm assuming to be a MYA econo thunder (yes i know they're not great but i didn't want to invest that much money at the time) heres a link to what it looks like: http://www.myahookah.com/mya-econo-mya-thunder-hookah.aspx is my hookah just bad? i've tried brands from starbuzz, al fakher, and fantasia and always similar results: soapy or no flavor but thick clouds. It's not my hose because i've inhaled straight from the place you insert the hose and same thing. if more info is needed let me know, i just want my hookah to taste good ;_;
headhunter
well to be honest it sounds like a under pack, try sprinkling about 2-3 cm above the rim of the bowl and then lightly tap it down so it won't touch the foil. also try splitting the coal's in half and using 3 halves ( 1 1/2 coals) you should find that heat management is easier this way. Hope i helped!
Chreees
I agree with headhunter that underpacking may be the case, but perhaps you could take pics or a video to show us exactly what you are doing? Are you getting clouds but no flavor, or no clouds and no flavor?
over9000sins
i dont think underpacking is the case because i've always done it this way and didn't have problems on my first hookah or any of my friends' but i'll try it that way next time. and i'm getting thick clouds and no flavor. heat management would be the easy answer, but i dont think thats the problem since its not harsh and i've done this plenty of times
over9000sins
also another problem is that i'm getting shisha juice up my hose and into my mouth. could this be a contributing factor or is it a different issue entirely?
Coleman
just gonna say it, how is it possible to be getting juices in your hose, I understand water but juices sounds unlikely since they would have to travel down the stem through the water and out the hose port. it is more likely it is water going in the hose and that would be caused by filling the base too much, it only needs to be about an inch above the stem
over9000sins
i don't understand it either. its not water i assure you. i already only put water up to an inch above the stem. I have no idea how this is happening, i thought maybe the two were related.
Pavo21
the stuff in the hose is water the inside of those mya hoses is like a dark purple so...it changes colors along with rust. Also the no flavor big clouds is you, and not the hookah. It happens your tongue has taste buds and sometimes they are overused and die off which in turn means flavor loss. so try not smoking for a couple days and drink water. then try again. over9000sins
how could it be water though? it tastes so strong and sort of stingy kind of like flavored dip tobacco if you've ever tried it. also could smoking cigarettes be a factor? it seems like it could be but i've been a cig smoker and have smoked hookah still being able to taste it

Chreees
Sounds like you're getting rust/water through your hose. Stop using this hose immediately and throw it away. I'm not sure why you're getting water up the hose, but this is definitely an issue and I can assure you, it's not the tobacco flavoring. Big smoke but no flavor means its either you're doing something wrong heat management wise, the tobacco you're using is just shitty, or your taste buds are giving you trouble tasting the flavor. I want to say its most likely due to the fact of user error if you're also getting water up the hose. You definitely need to reevaluate things and help us help you figure these issues out by showing us exactly how you're setting up and maintaining heat. Take extensive pics, take a video, or hop on TC with us and get on cam and we can help you sort this all out. Tapatalk'd via iPhone
fineout
^what chris said, pics, vid or tc would be great to help your problem. Even though you say heat management isnt a problem, it probably is. Since you got a new head with the new hookah that changes heat management drastically and you need to learn how to get a good smoke out of the new setup, every hookah can give you a good smoke, but they all need different attention to different things, and this is probably your problem. The problem with the "juice" in your hose could be the smoke condensing in the hose while you are smoking but that still means you could be getting water in it. I would suggest not going a full inch above the stem, but maybe around 1/2 to 3/

Bawhee
things that will change how hookah smoke tastes to me : cigarettes - to an extent, I smoke on occasion and it does change my perception of the flavor of hookah but only for a few hours after smoking the cigarette, reduced greatly by drinking lots of water food - hot (literally hot) or hot (as in spicy) can sometimes deaden my tastebuds extremely. temperature - drinking really cold drinks when smoking can also deaden my taste buds. Also change your hose and other afvice in this thread that people already listed.
headhunter
i agree with what everyone has stated before, with the fact that you smoke cig's tasting the hookah becomes almost impossible, also with the hose it sounds like rust to me as well and i would throw the hose away before you start getting sick, if your not already.
