Silverback
Hi guys, so I just tried my first bowl of shiazo dragonfruit, I recommend it for anyone who wants a tasty bowl of vapor stones. It was my first time with the stones, but also using a phunnel bowl, also my first time using coco NARA, I used three pieces on a medium phunnel bowl. What I noticed when I pulled the foil off when I was done was a lot of black dust from the coal, the coal was a combo of gray ash and black dust, I heated up the coals on an outdoor portable stove, they were glowing red like the box instructs but I could also see black, it was as if no matter how long I left it on the stove it would never fully burn the black up, I left it on the stove WAY longer than I leave my japanese silver coals and although like the box says I never tasted anything or smelled anything (although there was a bad odor outside when I first started heating them up) I was concerned with the black dust pulled into the bowl and wonered how much made its was into the water and if any of that has any bad concequences? is this normal for coco NARA? thanks
Stuie
You need to flip them when lighting. Should take about 8-10 minutes to light fully. Coal dust in the water is nothing bad. Charcoal water is an old folk remedy for colic.
Crhiss
There have been problems with naras lately, with moisture getting in them. To fix this there are two ways (that I know of). First, you can keep them in the freezer over night or a whole day. Second, and I believe the more popular solution, is to bake them in the over. I'm not sure exactly the temp or how long to keep them in there so you'll have to search it or ask someone on here.
Silverback
I do flip them every 4 or 5 minutes on the electric portable stove, its outside, and it has been raining though no rain water hits the stove obviously, but the black in the bowl is not normal right? I figure maybe its always there but you dont notice because most people use shisha and whether its a funnel or an egyptian bowl you get ash sucked down onto the tobacco but its not visible, the stones turn really white after they are done so its easy to see all that black dust, still though, do you guys know for coco NARA is this normal? Or should they lite up just like any wood charcoal or japanese quick light charcoal? ash gray only? Edited December 3, 2012 by Silverback
Chreees
Let them sit off the stove for a minute or two before placing them on the bowl. They should ash over a bit and that black will go away. Hope this helps.
