Tangiers CB Line

Recommended Posts

I think a few of you here are part of the Tangiers sample group and have received a taste of the CB line. What do you think? Was it what your were expecting? How has the acclimation, heat management, and smoking experience been so far?

I'm a huge fan of the stronger more flavourful tobaccos so this really satisfies me. I'm looking forward to hearing what everyone else thinks :)

I received Static Starlight and Cane Mint in Burley from the sample set Eric sent out. Here's my review for Static Burley that I posted on tangiers.us:
CB99 - Static Starlight (Experimental)

Hookah: Al Nawras "Spear" Brass Syran on BJ Glassworks Red Jumbo Boho.
Bowl: Tangiers Mini Phunnel.
Screen/Foil: Reynolds Heavy Duty.
Hose: Nammor Fretted.
Coals: Two Razans flat.
Base Liquid: Water.

Appearance: Noir cut and juiciness. Dark in color, like Noir.
Smell: Smells just like Static Starlight in Noir or Lucid, except there was like an alcohol base type of smell to it. No soy or BBQ smell whatsoever. I did the instant acclimation method for 5 minutes, squishing the bag in my hands. Let it sit out for maybe 5 minutes before packing (packed it like I do all Tangiers- tight and up to the inner spire, slightly below the outer rim).
Taste: Tastes pretty much just like Static Starlight Noir or Lucid, more or less. There's a little bit of something else there, but not quite sure how to describe it. It's not bad at all, though. It's actually really, really good. I don't really get any tobacco undertones like I do with Noir, but the flavor is similar to Noir in that it is more "robust." I think the flavor may be even stronger in Burley than it is in Noir or Lucid.
Smoke: Huge clouds. More than I normally get with Noir, Lucid, or Birquq, which in itself is pretty impressive.
Buzz: Whoa. This had me feeling a buzz within two pulls. Noir doesn't do this to me typically anymore, so... awesome! As Mushrat said on Tinychat: "Your eyes are crossing!" Haha.
Duration: ~1 hour so far, about to throw on second set of coals. Flavor hasn't diminished a bit since I've been smoking, and I don't foresee it doing so once the new round is on. EDIT: Smoked it for three hours, never died down in flavor, and was great smoke all throughout.

Purchased From: From the sample set Eric sent out in December 2012.

Overall: 10/10. This is truly something special. As many of you know, Static Starlight is one of my favorite, all-time flavors. So I was quite excited to hear from Eric that he'd be sending this one to me. I love it, probably more so than in Noir or Lucid (I usually get it in Lucid). The burley tobacco adds something that I can't quite put my finger on, but it's great. Full flavor, not really much tobacco undertones as is usual with Noir. It's an all-around excellent flavor, and I hope Eric decides to put it into production for retail sale, so I can continue getting it. EDIT: After thinking about it for a while, the "thing I couldn't quite put my finger on" is pretty much just this certain robustness to the flavor, similar to Noir but not exactly, if that makes any sense. The flavor is the same, maybe even more intense, but that certain quality to the smoke/flavor is probably attributed to it being burley tobacco. Whatever it is, it's awesome. I think Noir and Lucid lovers alike will really appreciate this. It took Static Starlight above and beyond the greatness that already it is and made it even better. I foresee this being a huge hit. I can't wait to see what other flavors come out in Burley, and I will be sure to try them all. I also have Cane Mint in Burley that Eric sent me to try, so that will be the next flavor I review.
So basically it's like Static Starlight on steroids. The buzz was definitely greater than I typically get (or don't get these days) with Noir, but the flavor was better than Noir or Lucid I felt. I didn't really get any tobacco undertones, but I did get that "robustness" which I'm guessing is due to the use of burley tobacco. It just made it amazing, I think. This version of Static Starlight has easily become my favorite. I can't wait to try out Cane Mint, and I also can't wait to try any other flavors this is released in. Dare I say this is my new favorite line? I don't know for sure, but Birquq has been blowing my mind lately, and this just topped that.

EDIT: Whoops, forgot to address your questions about acclimation and heat management... As you can tell from my review, I had zero issues with acclimation. It was VERY easy with heat management, maybe even too easy. Just threw coals on and that was it. Never got harsh, full flavor the entire time with huge dense puffy clouds. Amazing! If Eric makes more flavors of this line, I won't bother buying anything else... It's that damn good!

Cool to see a possible burly line. I like strait aged burly smoked in my briar pipe. A lot of difference between burly and Virginian tobacco.

I'm dissapointed to hear the same base and flavorings were still used though. So it still tastes 97% the same as the other 3 lines with the same 83 flavors.

I feel it smokes a lot like birquq, but without the need for reduced heat, and has a wider margin of error than noir. I got the opposite response buzz wise than Chris My lady who, wasn't aware it was a new line picked up on that the first night we smoked. She said it felt stronger than lucid, but that she didnt need to watch the amount she inhaled like noir. I am really sensitive to nicotine but could not really tell the difference.

The smoke seems to be less textured like birquq, and doesnt give you that almost full feeling when you inhale the way noir does. Not sure if that makes sense and its pretty hard to explain.

We did the 5 minute mix on the bag of cb cane mint was still a handful. The flavour was quite interesting, being peppermint (i believe) and with a different base tobacco taste. And ya, i got the first damn head rush i've had in quite a while. And i normally smoke OG flavours. Can't wait to try it tomorrow or after once it has had a chance to really acclimate.

Oh and that means it was DAAAAMN TASTY (think rasta voice).

Justin- I know what you tend got go for, unflavored stuff with big buzz, but I really think you would like this stuff. You know I'm not the biggest fan of Noir, but this stuff is just amazing.

Jess- Odd that you did not find it to have a bigger buzz, whereas Mush and I did. Did you perhaps do something different in preparing it, such acclimating it longer?

Mush- Try the Static!

I think I'll try the Cane Mint one Thursday before work...
also if he smokes cigarettes would make a difference. Could be anything. Nicotine is nicotine.
This. Being a frequent dokha smoker and smoke on average 10-15 cigarettes a day, no shisha gives me a buzz. Also kills a lot of flavor.
sounds great hopefully tangiers will be more available soon
I talked to Eric the other day about this. He said they're catching up, slowly but surely. There were some things going on that messed up the flow of things, but the problems have been hopefully corrected and we should see things return to normal... Thank god. :)

I think that the the burley gives the flavours a very interesting dynamic. Thats what I found most interesting actually... that this tobacco could be so perfectly match with a flavour like Static Starlight. Usually when I think about these fruity floral flavours my instinct would be to prefer a lighter base but its great with the heaviness of burley.

hmmm.... I know its unmarked but is the strawberry not burley?
Nah... I think Eric wanted us to figure that one out. I determined it to be Birquq. I posted my review for it here: http://www.hookahforum.com/topic/49456-strawberry/
