Review: Tangiers cooling strawberry

Recommended Posts

Tangiers cooling strawberrySetup: Single hose QT. Tangiers Phunnel bowl. approx: 40g of tobacco. Foil (with large holes in a tight 5x5 pattern just larger than the size of a 33mm 3kings disc. I rotated the foil once or twice.) (1) 33mm 3kings quicklight. Allowed to acclimate for 24hours before smokingAroma: Very nice smell to this one. My dorm room still smells like sweet, juicy strawberries. Cut: A little less juicy than usual tangiers, but still nice and wet. Smoke Density: I was smoking outside in the wind, so this is a little difficult to judge. Im trying a new packing technique, with a new tobacco, with a new bowl(phunnel), which leads to a lot of confounding. However, I definatly got thicker smoke than what Tangiers usually yields me.Flavor: Very itense flavor at first, with a sweet juicy bite. I felt myself searching for the "cooling" sensation, and for some reason it never came through. I did detect a hint of another flavor(slightly bitter) which is im sure where the effect is supposed to come from. Unfortunatly after 10-15 minutes, my flavor drastically dropped off. This may be attributed to all of the new factors in my session however. I quit smoking soon after this. (it should be noted that the only "cooling" effect shisha I have ever smoked is Nahkla chocomint which is very, very strong) Buzz: Steady, relaxing buzz to this flavor. I actually really enjoyed it- but having not smoked in several weeks and smoking on an empty stomach, a headache forced me to retire early.Overall: A good flavor, if it were only called strawberry. However, looking for (and not being able to find) the cooling effect was a turn off, especially with the additional taste. I will certainly try it again and post my (hopefully) better results. Like I said, there were many confounding variables.Tangiers Cooling Strawberry: 6/10It would have been a strong tobacco if not for the non-Tangiers-esque flavor loss/lack.Im sure it wasnt humidity shock, as it sat out for a full 24 hours. Perhaps because I was outside in the wind and heat as opposed to my cold dorm room?

I could be wrong, but I don't think that the "cooling" sensation is exactly the same from what you'd find in a minty tobacco. Tangiers did it this way to distinguish it from the other strawberry... but it's been awhile, so I'll let the man himself *or one of his minions* prove me right or wrong

I remember Tangiers saying once that "cooling strawberry" was not the "cooling" (effect) tobacco with strawberry, but just a different name for a candy strawberry flavor instead of the regular strawberry, which is made to be a real strawberry flavor. I could be wrong, but I think that's what he said.

Oh, I don't know if I understood correctly...you smoked outside...without a windhood? You done this before? In my experience, that always makes things smoke poorly. Edit: I reread it...yeah, if your dorm room is air conditioned, yeah humidity shock. The wind tends to make the charcoal burn poorly, too. Smoking outside, when the tobacco was acclimated inside means the tobacco really wan't acclimated...if you see what I mean.
Too many variables in this smoke.  Go read my scientific method thread, assuming it wasnt deleted.
I stated that many times.Tang: I used a foil "hat" to protect the coal from ambient thermal transfer.I want to try it again today, but it is even windier outside and my allergies are bothering my throat. Check back another timeEdit: Eric, think allowing the tobacco to acclimate near an open window would work well enough? I cant exactly leave it sitting outside, and there is no where in doors that I can smoke =(
