ioannisds
I've dug through some of the other hookah music posts, and it seems like a lot of folks here like to listen to music that is a mix of tradtional middle eastern and electronic music. What about just plain old traditional middle eastern music? Any recommendations on CDs to look for? I know a lot about Greek and classical music, but nothing about the music from further east. I guess what I am looking for is more traditional music that has not been dressed up with a drum machine/synthesizer/DJ.

ioannisds
Nancy
Is that a group, or are you calling me names? Don't make me come over there and make you smoke some Soex.
Scalliwag
This does not fit what you stated but you ought to try; Pink Floyd, Dark Side of the Moon album. Play the whole CD start to finish. It sets a really nice mood.
Anpu
Nancy
If you're a Nancy fan (especially for hookah music), I'm visiting your lounge like 6 times a year from now on... I don't care if I'm driving from Anaheim or Vegas...ioan, if he's not calling you names, he's talking about Nancy Ajram (last named prnounced with a heavy j or g) - I'm quite a big fan of hers (even though I sound stupid singing along to her songs LOL) and my local lounge plays quite a few of her music vids. I love listening to her music while smoking. She's EXTREMELY popular in the Arab world - even Coke's pop rep in the middle east.My personal favorites for hookah music: (at least the arabic artists)Nancy AjramHaifaElissaMya NasriNajwa Karam(last three are a lil more mellow, especially Elissa)
Sonthert
I gotta grip of Arabic, some Punjabi. Tons of electronica, 60s/70s rock/psychedelia.DSotM is great, Wish You Were Here is far more social...DSotM is too engaging. Nancy is an arabic artist. My favorite is Ya Salem. ioannisds
Ok, so I asked for more of this:And so far I have gotten:And my personal favorite:Don't get me wrong, that chick is HOT, Floyd kicks ass, and Tupac is dead, but I think we are on the wrong track though. Anpu
Before you get too bent on how hot Nancy is, all that beauty is plastic surgery... don't believe me, I"ll show you a vid of her first music vid (not trying to be harsh, I just thought she was super hot at first too... well she is but yah.. lol). That still doesn't make her any less of a good artist. Nancy's the closest artist to what you originally asked for, she's THE image of Arabic pop right now. If you want something a lil more electronica, look up Haifa. As for more classical, Sabah was a big artist back in the day from what I understand... but hey, check out this forum (i'm on there even more than i'm on here) www.videoarab.com - there will be a link to the forum on that page

Her full name is Haifa Wehbe - not as good a voice as Nancy but her music's fun to listen to

I don't think the face goes with the singer... but was curious if anyone knew the song... and yes she is a pretty good amateur dancer... very nice body... but I usually don't like the really thin women. Thadeus
Reggae is good. Also some good underground hip-hop usually sets a nice mood. Some rock is nice too. It usually depends on what mood I'm in.
