Hassouni
OK having received my Desi Murli/Salloum/Cleopatra/Afzal care package, let me chip in with my thoughts. Cleopatra, which is made in the same factory as Salloum, seems to be very light in smoke texture and quality. Perhaps this was just the flavor I tried (grape). Also it was dyed red. The Salloum I had (Bahraini Apple) was similar to Nakhla, but with less anise - pretty similar in nearly every way otherwise though. As for Desi Murli, it arrived needing no additives like glycerine or honey. It is quite moist - not the sticky wetness you're used to from most tobacco, but just moist, as if water had been sprinkled on and allowed to soak in. They seem to have changed the cut since a couple years ago - it used to be the consistency of potting soil, but now, though fine, the individual pieces of tobacco have a definable size, maybe 2-3mm bits. It does, as Two Apples said, take a bit of heat to get going, but I found that once it gets smoking, it is pretty sensitive to heat - too much can easily scorch it. 2 Razans and a windcover was just BARELY enough heat, but 3 coals would have been too much. That being said, DM is some awesome stuff!
Coyote
I love all that weird stuff I smoke at Hass' house... this weekend was fantastic. Salloum Bahraini Apple, Salloum Grape, Desi Murli Roohafza. I also took up smoking Salloum and Zaghloul with no foil. I like it... some people frown on the no foil thing but whatever. Santino
I've said it before.. will say it again. Afzal orange is good enough to provide redemption for creating soex. Yeah I said it.
king_lunchb0x
rosanna sounds like what I'm into right now, any trustworthy U.S. vendors that carry? sidenote: this is a great thread, very informational on brands most of us just pass by. Pavo21
Cleopatra is some of the worst shit i've ever smoked, the mint was HORRIBLE and just couldn't stand it. Also i really love Zaghoul with no foil i think its taste beautiful :)
tranoid no ki
The only afzal flavor i ever smoked was vanilla, and it tasted like wax. I bought an al-waha vanilla cause it was on sale, and the cut was AWFUL. it was like someone took a whole tobacco leaf, soaked it in flavor and threw it in a tub and sold it. Real PITA to work with. Hassouni
The fruit Afzal I had (mango) was 100% wax. Apparently all their fruit flavors are like that. Apparently also, their non fruit is quite the opposite and very good. I have a 50g pack of vanilla that I haven't opened yet and can't even smell, and I have a 250 of "Silver Fox" that I haven't opened but CAN smell and it smells quite nice. I'll post back when I've tried them. Also, the Cleopatra I've tried so far was great. What did you try?
twoapplesplease
I just picked up a bunch of new flavors of afzal and Cleopatra. And also some minar jurak and minar bombbay pan. Thought this would be a good thread to bring back to life. Rescently tried afzal gingerelle...listed as ginger ale. But its a ginger lemon flavor...and its very nice mellow flavor and refreshing to smoke
twoapplesplease
I also tried Cleopatra mango, which is more or less the same as salloum mango. Flavor was like mango taffy...kinda waxy I think some would find but to me it was that unmistakable taffy candy type waxyness. It was a light and pleasent to smoke. I'm not much on tropical fruit flavors. But I like how salloum and Cleopatra do not over use flavoring like other brands...to much flavoring to me makes the flavor harsh and unpleasant. twoapplesplease
Tried the Minar bombbay pan last night and I must say it was fantastic. Best bombbay pan I've had. Still have to try the minar jurak, but I hope the other Minar regular flavours become available. This stuff is good
wek-sos
I just picked up a bunch of new flavors of afzal and Cleopatra. And also some minar jurak and minar bombbay pan. Thought this would be a good thread to bring back to life.Rescently tried afzal gingerelle...listed as ginger ale. But its a ginger lemon flavor...and its very nice mellow flavor and refreshing to smoke How would you compare it to Afzal lemon-lime? I enjoyed the flavor though I wish it was stronger. I will be making a large Afzal order when I move into my new place and wanted to try something different Also, what are your thoughts on double apple vs. silverfox? I love silverfox, I love Nakhla double apple, and I love mixing the two flavors. Never tried Afzal DA though.
twoapplesplease
the afzal "ginger ale" gingerelle/ginger lemon is kind of a lighter flavor, but it is fantastic IMO. Afzal DA is also fantastic, silverfox as you know is amazing. not sure if I would put Afzal DA over nakhla's but its not far behind and certainily in the 9/10 range. Hassouni
Silverfox is not a DA flavor at all. Yes there's some apple and some anise, but there's a wallop of mint, some mild spicing, and that Afzal creaminess.
mattarios2
I needa try all this stuff real soon. All these brands discussed in this thread, are they dry, sticky, oily, soaked? Or what? I am really more of a fan of dry tobaccos that are oily, and tobaccos that are sticky. Not a huge fan of super wet tobacco.
twoapplesplease
Afzal,salloum/ Cleopatra. Tend to be more oily and sticky then standard fresh nakhla. With most of them not having any glycerin. DM is just different all together. Minar pan masala is very sticky and drenched in molasses
mattarios2
But afzal/salloum/cleopatra are by no means drenched, yeah?
twoapplesplease
Nope not drenched...pretty on par with "juicy" nakhla as far as tottal moisture. Hey if your interested in a little trade for some coals. I'd. Set ya up with a nice sampler , I just got a good size order from H1. And I know you have tons of coals on hand. I'm running low on coals. A box of ccns would great
mattarios2
We could work something like that I think, hit me up with a PM on what you want me to try and what you want in return.
Hassouni
Reviving a dormant but very worthy thread: Afzal Vanilla - awesome. Best vanilla on the market. Almost tastes like a vanilla custard. Silver Fox is now one of my top flavors ever. DM Rooh Afza and Khus - awesome flavors. Khus is almost unflavored but very smooth. Rooh Afza tastes like the syrup smells, and is not easily describable. Salloum Bahraini - very solid, like a toned down Nakhla DA, sort of. New to me brand - Al Rayan or Alrayan, made in Jordan. I've only tried their grape but they've done the impossible. They've resurrected the classic Fakher grape that everyone loved before it went to shit. In terms of appearance and smoke quality etc, it's VERY similar to old Al Fakher. I am only buying grape from them from now on.

Hassouni
Update - After sitting around in a container for several months, Desi Murli Bombay Paan is actually quite nice! The overpowering flavor I didn't like has been dialed way back, and it's a really nice, spicy, non-sweet smoke. Good stuff.
