Hassouni
That quotation is terrifying....it's the classic tongue-in-cheek definition of puritanism: "the haunting feeling that someone, somewhere, is having a good time"
Chreees
That has got to be the most asinine statement I've ever heard someone say. Let's ban everything that could potentially harm us... We will all live in bubbles, stay in our homes and never go outside, and not drive cars (interstate's a slaughter house, ya know)... The government will mass-produce robots to do everything for us and deliver food and other necessary goods to our homes. We will communicate via Skype. As for enjoyment... Who needs that? We will be vegetables in our homes on government support, so that nixes all enjoyment. Sen. Tim Begalka's perfect, ideal world, me thinks. Let's propose this ^^^ idea and see what he says! Rambo
Every smoking establishment in st. Louis city is supposed to be closed by Jan. 2015 if I'm correct. There has to be some sort of way around the ban such as making it a "membership" only club though right?

'Rani I still disagree with this. Our freedoms are still widespread compared to large governments in history, and if you consider the options America is still up there. I'm thankful I wasn't born in an age that my blacksmith dad required me to be a blacksmith. Smart people probably move to quiet peaceful countries though. It is kind of interesting how SES is still pretty much intergenerational within the same populations. Just because they say you don't have to be a blacksmith does not mean you're not going to end up one-
WhoBlowsThere
That's true. People literally could "go get it" here though. There are different advantages, barriers, and tribulations to succeed coming from different backgrounds.

Even then.. when compared to "large" governments in history, The US government (and nation) is MUCH larger than all but 1% of other governments in history... So.. you know.. there's that... The US government, if you're looking at control and impact, is probably the largest in history, and likely the largest there ever will be (because it's almost globally hated). Note I said control and impact. Our government doesn't stop at our shores. It works to control every single nation on earth through it's treaties and brides. It has literally destroyed other nations just to benefit it's wealthy business class. And it continues to do so. Anyone who thinks the US government is anything close to free and benevolent, has spent almost no time studying it. 'Rani

God forbid we should do anything that impacts "them". This is how revolutions happen. Stupid crap like this makes everyday life intolerable. We can stand almost anything if we can just have a little fun, but when you take away the fun, it's time for an overthrow. 'Rani
