Chreees
I just placed an order at whippeddog.com: - http://whippeddog.com/products/view/sight-unseen-razor ($41) - http://whippeddog.com/products/view/poor-man-strop-kit ($17 flawed one) - http://whippeddog.com/products/view/micro-abrasive-hone-b0502a ($15) - http://whippeddog.com/products/view/brush-and-soap-set ($28, would like the silvertip upgrade) I've been using an electric for years due to sensitive skin, and I'm just tired of never getting a close shave. I've always heard that straight shaving is best for sensitive skin if done properly, so I'm willing to give it a go and learn the art. I'm also getting a straight razor from my brother here in a few weeks that he no longer uses, along with a strop (why I went with the flawed one from whippeddog), and cheap brush (will probably just throw it away since he said it's not very good). Other than Ty and Hass, who I know shave with a straight razor, does anyone else that might be willing to share their wisdom? I joined up on straightrazorplace.com's forum and hope to learn a lot there as well. I've been doing research for a couple days now and feel confident in what I purchased and can't wait to get started. I already know which ways my hair grows, and I've been watching plenty of tutorial vids on YouTube. Here's to hopefully better shaves!

So I'm hoping this works out and I end up with a close shave with no irritation. I'll let you know how it goes.
mustang67n
fucking sexy, chris. the barber I go to does straight razor shaves, and even when you get a regular haircut, they line you up with a straight razor.. shit is AMAZING.. I want to get into it too, electrics, and even regular razors fuck my shit UP.
Chreees
You know it's sexy! And manly as fuck, too. You are essentially holding a weapon in your hand that you could easily kill yourself with. Or your wife could use it to kill you. I better not piss off my wife anymore after I get this thing... Well, she's gonna kill me with it once she finds out how much I spent on it. What poetic justice... But yeah, I really should be saving money right now since I'm about to be unemployed... I gotta slow my roll. Oh well, at least I will look sexy while unemployed. ;)
Hassouni
That's nothing man, the razor I showed you that I have was more than the setup from Larry you got, and I think I've only used it once... ;)
Chreees
That's nothing man, the razor I showed you that I have was more than the setup from Larry you got, and I think I've only used it once... ;) Since you're not giving it the love it deserves, send it to me. ;) And yes, I know the one I'm getting from Larry will not be the best, but it will be a good starter and will definitely be shave-ready, based on reviews I've read. I'll upgrade later on down the road when I get some skillz.
Tyler
I've never used an electric or a straight razor lol. Actually, I've used the same razor my entire life, the fusion proglide, the only thing i've ever changed is the shaving cream I use....

Chreees
Word, that's what I've seen elsewhere as well. Now I'm just looking for some damn Proraso, which I have seen highly praised everywhere during my research. Ty mentioned it as well. I couldn't find a single damn thing Ty recommended at Wal-Mart (wasn't expecting much selection here anyway) or Walgreen's. I'm going to see where the closest CVS is and check that out tomorrow. If not I may just have to find suitable alternatives, as I really don't want to have to order all this stuff online on a regular basis. Either way, I'll be trying different stuff until I determine what works best for me.

Chreees
I wants one. Larry at whippeddog.com ships international, and only charges a bit extra for it (all prices on his site include shipping and he lists what the international shipping costs are for each item). After much research, it really is the best deal to get a decent starter kit.

mustangii
I get my shaving equipment from... http://www.westcoastshaving.com/ They carry Proraso.. http://search.westcoastshaving.com/b/q?k=Proraso&search=GO&sn=161304780 This is the razor I use, http://www.westcoastshaving.com/Merkur-23C-Long-Handle-Safety-Razor_p_52.html I haven't had the guts to try a start razor yet. edm

Chreees
so, either that or a pipe for my burfday... damn. Damn, that really IS a hard decision! I'd say if you're happy with your current shaving regimen, then go with the new pipe. I get my shaving equipment from... http://www.westcoastshaving.com/ They carry Proraso.. http://search.westcoastshaving.com/b/q?k=Proraso&search=GO&sn=161304780 This is the razor I use, http://www.westcoastshaving.com/Merkur-23C-Long-Handle-Safety-Razor_p_52.html I haven't had the guts to try a start razor yet. edm I considered trying DE wet shaving first, but kept seeing folks say that straight razor really is the best overall. So I jumped right into the deep end of wet shaving. Let's see if I can swim... Also C.O. Bigelow that Bath and Body sells is made by Proraso. edm Ooo, thanks. I'll check that out... Also, I found some information that said you can use Noxzema skin cleansing cream as an alternative to Proraso to shave with (or to just use as a pre-shave). This stuff: http://www.walmart.com/ip/The-Original-Deep-Cleansing-Cream/14122693 I currently use the Equate version of it in the shower as a facial cleanser, so I MIGHT experiment with it... mustangii
Any multiblade razor is reale a bad Idea. Sure they shave close, but they strech the whisker and cut it below the level of the skin. Which is what you want, but it cuts it way below the skin. Thats what causes razor bumps, pimples, and other problems. What you need to do is what is called a 4 pass shave with a DE orStraight razor. http://www.timothyedwards.co.uk/four-pass-shave.asp Hope that helps. edm

Hassouni
jesus 4? 1-2 is usually sufficient for most purposes (i.e. if you don't want to pass for a 12 year old...)
Chreees
Yeah... I definitely wouldn't do a four-pass shave very often. But I'd like to try it soon. I found a Bath and Body Works that sells the C.O. Bigelow version of Proraso for $10 (5.2 oz.). I'll be sure to pick that up soon so I'm set with the best when I do my first shave.
