SmokeyWhit
Seems like almost everyone i know uses phunnel bowls...but the one i have is huge. Takes alot of shisha to fill it and is a waste if its only me smoking. Just wondering if anyone still uses those and if the prefer it. Are there any benefits for using an egyptian over a phunnel. Also, how do you typically pack it? Around the side so to not cover the holes for better airflow or does it not matter?? Thanks in advance for any advice. Chreees
Nope, I pretty much only use my phunnels these days. Occasionally I'll pull out the Egyptian though, or the Turk, if I'm feeling traditional and using Nakhla. Sounds like you need a smaller phunnel bowl. I recommend a Pico or Small if you can get your hands on one. Vendors are overcharging for these when they do have them in stock, unfortunately. As for benefits, the only real benefit of the phunnel is no juices run down compared to the Egyptian. Both are good designs, just different methods that achieve the same results, more or less. As for packing, it depends on the tobacco... For example, you'll want to pack Nakhla pretty darn tight compared to Al Fakher or Starbuzz. Don't think one packing method works the same for all brands. If you ever need advice on how to pack a certain brand, ask here and you shall receive the best advice. ;)
Extra Mint
not since i got the crown micro smokes better then perfect, even with the traditional tobaccos like nakhla.
Fang
I have any egy and it works great for me, but the only reason I haven't gotten a different one yet is because of money lol. I plan on getting a crown when I can. As far as packing, like Chris said, it just depends on the brand.
Hassouni
Egyptian?? Pahh! Male Lebanese and Turkish bowls all the way home.
mattarios2
Since hass got me into the Turk bowls I find for og nak it tastes 10 times better in the turk bowl and the buzz is better too it seems. I just can't seem to get really good clouds the way I do with the phunnel. For mizo, ice, and other juicy tobaccos I def will use my phunnel though. â€On
I have pretty much put my egyptian bowls into the graveyard, though, I wish I could find my really wide "dish" style egyptian.... I use my tangiers small phunnels for Tangiers, Mizo, AF, and I use Turkish Elmas bowls for Nak, Fumari and occasionally AF. I don't know why, but Fumari always seems to smoke better for me out of my turks. The flavor is really immense out of the Elmas bowls and I really have no idea why. Lack of glazing and the flavors leaching in? I doubt that, but maybe.
mattarios2
I think I may snag like 15-20 elmas bowls when I order from ns again and keep one for each og nak flavor I always keep on hand. I like the unglazed bowl for that reason.
Pavo21
I love using my egyptian bow, i use it for my naklah. :) and AF or what ever else. Since erica and i dont like sharing our hookahs she gets a bowl usually a phunnel and i'll smoke like DA or what ever nak i have but its like 50/50 with me someitng tangiers 50% of the time then other 50% is mixed up. So i use my egyptian bowl just as much as my phunnels.
mustang67n
I use my egyptian anytime i don't have a phunnel available.... but honestly.. everything smokes better in a phunnel and lasts longer. When all i had was small's i'd use my egyptians.. but now that i have the 7's there isnt any point. i use the same amount of tobacco and it lasts longer

I have yet to try mizo and really juicy tobacco's in the turk bowl, but I will try it in the next few days.
IainUM
ever since i got my pico i think it's the only bowl i've used. i can only think of like once or twice in a long time that i've used my mini instead of the pico
The Messiah
I only use Phunnels. Different sizes for different tobaccos.

Stuie
Still prefer smoking Nakhla out of my Hemi Bowls! About the only Egyptian bowls I use.
ryno
9/10 my Nakhla will go in an Egyptian bowl. Always have, always will.
thehelios
I've got around 14 bowls at home and 10 of them are Egyptian style. I haven't touched any of those in years. Phunnels4Lyfe!
Skoozle
I use egyptian bowls unless I am smoking Tangiers which I smoke in a Phunnel. I tried some Nak MIzo in a phunnel once and it sucked, so I went back to egyptians with anything other than Tangiers..
mattarios2
Hmmm I will have to try mizo out of the turk bowl.
mattarios2
Just tried nak raspberry ice out of the turk bowl. All I have to say is WHAT THE FUCK HAVE I BEEN MISSING?!The flavor is at least 1.5 times stronger than out of the phunnel, no question! What is weird too is there was no juice down the pipe or in the water. I suppose the unglazed clay soaks up most of the juice before it goes down the bowl ... ? I got 1 hour out of it, used about 24 grams 2 coconut coals. My small phunnel I do 35g 3 cocos sometimes 4 depending on the flavor and I get an hour and 15 min give or take ... clearly a no brainer. Thanks Hass :-) I am a convert for sure. Skoozle
Nice, I've got a couple of unglazed bowls that I have been saving to dedicate to some special flavor. I'll have to keep in mind that it might amp up the flavor.
Hassouni
You don't need to dedicate unglazed bowls necessarily - only for super strong stuff like salloum, or double apple, or kashmir. Other flavors will quickly disappear once you start the next session

Had some friends over last night and we smoked two bowls, and the second bowl the first round they were asking me if I packed the first flavor again haha

I really have been digging the Turk bowls for all Nakhla including mizo, ice, etc.
Hassouni
No man, this stuff is RARE in the US. I want to make an NS order soon (as soon as they fucking respond) so I can add some bowls.
