Need A New Hookah...any Recommendations / Suggestions?

Recommended Posts

Hey guys, I am sorta new here. I registered a while ago but just wanted to know what you guys can recommend.

I want to FINALLY get a new hookah but do not know which to get. Any ideas/suggestions? I usually smoke about 3-4 times a week and smoke Fantasia, Alfakir, or Starbuzz tobacco, but it is time to get a new one because this one is super old.

Before anyone asks what my budget is, I shall say it is about $150 at most. I want a good quality hookah, something that will last a long time, but most importantly smoke GOOD!

Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated :)

KM is Khalil Mamoon, egyptian, usually known as fairly high quality pipes though apparently lately theyve been a bit less well made as a few years back, dont know as I dont own one :P
For the turks most well known sorta thing is Elmas, also recently discovered Tokel pipes. Turks will not have a purge and they... look like turks I guess? :D check out the review section for pics and youll see!

welcome back, This site has some good models around your price point.

http://ultimatehookah.com/Khalil-Mamoon-Hookahs_c23.htm

http://www.hookah-shisha.com/c-522-khalil-mamoon-hookahs.html <<right now is 15-20% of km's.

Unless your going to order direct from Turkey the only site that still sells good turkish hookahs is this one, but the bowl is male and without purge. So keep that in mind.

http://www.5starhookah.com/Elmas-Hookahs_c185.htm  <<also, most are well above your price.

some myas:

Thanks for all the info guys, so I am pretty much down to

Mya

KM

Farida

If you guys had to choose, which would be considered best?

As for turkish, I have an OLD turkish hookah somewhere in my closet, and I can only assume that it is turkish because the bowl is MALE instead of female as normal hookahs are. I remember a family member had it and passed it on to me but unfortunately it was left in the hookah water for a few months, so i dont know how safe it is to smoke that, plus the top bowl is sorta rusted and I don't know where to get a new one because of the fact that its Male. Also I think the stem that goes into the water is not in good condition because of being left for the few months in the colored hookah water.

If you could take some pictures of the old pipe (including some good closeups of the downstem that was sitting in the water, as well as the inside of it), we could let you know if it is salvageable. The nice thing about quality old pipes is that in many cases where you might think a pipe is pretty much garbage, all it takes is a good, thorough cleaning to make it look good and make it safe to smoke out of again.

Out of your three choices:
-MYA pipes are great, and if you wanted to spend much less that is what I would go for (The MYA Vento is what I would choose). Keep in mind, by spending less, you can spend more on a nice new washable hose, coals, a bowl, tobacco, etc.

-If what you plan on spending (~$150) is for the pipe only, I would definitely look into a Farida. Personally, I think they are stylistically nicer than most of the new KM pipes, but both will smoke about the same. Farida tends to have nicer brazes/welds/joints on their pipes, but they have a copper downstem (which some do not like). If you clean your pipe regularly, you wouldn't notice a difference between the two. Copper, however, will oxidize with a green film if you don't clean it often enough, and that bothers some people. If you go with KM, I would not spend more than ~$125 on one (you can go MUCH cheaper than that as well, and I recommend you do, because you are only paying for looks...they will ALL smoke about the same). Go with a cheaper pipe and get a nice hose, bowl and coals.

-I would recommend the Narbish or Nogoom hose (I personally like the Nogoom V1 the best out of those).

-For a bowl, I would get a Tangiers Small Phunnel (it's pricey, but out of all the bowls I have tried, it's easily the best smoking) or an Elmas Female Bowl (It's a traditional unglazed clay turkish bowl, and it's great for stuff like AF and Nakhla).

-For coals I would get either Coconaras or Golden Canary (GC are my coal of choice these days, but CCN were my staple for a long time, and they work excellent)

Keep in mind, by spending less, you can spend more on a nice new washable hose, coals, a bowl, tobacco, etc. ---- very nice but little hookah, I am looking for something that is about 2.5 - 3 feet tall, because that is the height of mine now.

Unfortunately I was the hookah about once a week, I only smoke about 3-4 times a week, I know I should wash it and change water after every time i smoke, but laziness definitely gets the best of me.

-I would recommend the Narbish or Nogoom hose (I personally like the Nogoom V1 the best out of those). ---- I just use a mya hose which I bought at a local hookah shop, but I will definitely look into these two as well. Thanks for this :)

-For coals I would get either Coconaras or Golden Canary (GC are my coal of choice these days, but CCN were my staple for a long time, and they work excellent) ---- for coal, I use 3 kings, is it any good compared to the two that you mentioned?

Thanks, I shall look into it. Any suggestions on which ones to get? But question also being is how to light them? because the only reason why i get the 3 kings is because i can light it with a lighter, which makes it easy...please advise

sorry for all the n(.)(.)b questions lol

Hey guys, probably going to purchase one today or tomorrow. Still debating between KM or Farida

I did find a few nice KMs http://5starhookah.com/Khalil-Mamoon-Hookah-W-KM-2012-Signature-Base_c217.htm but I like those because of the nice vase design.

Any thoughts of something that has a nice base design as those, and maybe better?

I recommend a Farida. I've really put mine through the grinder and this thing has held up through pretty unusual and drastic abuse. (review on this comming, your welcome HF for me being this willing to abuse this product that hard to find these things out) But it's definetely a quality pipe if I must say so myself. I would highly recommend this.
