Coleman
So I found an old oil lamp at my grandparents and the opening was perfect. The issue is it still has oil in it. Would it be possible to clean it out to use as a base it's so beautiful compared to the typical qt vase and it's CLEAR!!!!!
Skoozle
Yeah, you should be able to clean it up. I would go with a mixture of alcohol and rock salt then boil it then finish up with lemon juice or vinegar. I have no basis for that procedure just what I would do off the top of my head. Make sure it passes the smell test before you use it.

mushrat
Dump the oil. I'd just put it in the sink with hot water and dish detergent. Dish detergent is MADE to get rig of oil and grease. Soak it a bit, rise and repeat, see if it's no longer oily.
Stuie
with mush on this one, also taking his other idea that has worked great for me, Denture cleaning tablets after a few rounds of Dawn.
Bawhee
if youre a real man youre gonna give it a go with oil instead of water just once.

â€On
Agreed with Stuie and Mush, a few rounds of soaking in warm water and dish detergent (with some intermittent scrubbing), followed by a round or two of letting it soak overnight with denture cleaning tablets. Denture cleaning tablets are amazing, seriously. They get rid of stains that you spend a ton of time scrubbing (and get nowhere). I recommend you put the vase in a container, fill it with water, and fill the vase with water to the rim, then toss in 4 tabs inside the vase and 6 or so on the outside. Leave it overnight and in the morning, give it a good scrub inside and out while it's still in the denture water. Rinse thoroughly, give it another scrub with fresh water, another rinse and it should be good to go.

Tyler
Bit late but I'm going to echo: use Dawn dishsoap, dump as much as you can, then put in about 1/8c Dawn soap in the fill with hot water, the oil should be displaced by the soap, dump, repeat, do this 4-5 times and all the oil should be gone.
