Anxiety
so this has actually never happened to me before, and I can't seem to figure this one out...so where better to turn than HF :) I'm smoking tanigers pineapple (as some of you may know, my absolute favorite flavor ever) My normal setup is to kind of squeeze some of the juice out because I've notice with this flavor if it's too juicy it can burn the throat a bit. I pack it in a small phunnel with a KM setup. The first round of coco's is perfect, although after about 45 minutes the flavor starts to die. Once I put on a second round of coals it's basically just smoke with no real flavor (oddly no burning taste, just smoke that's kind of flavorless..hard to explain). I've tried packing high, packing low, not squeezing the juice out (standard way of packing most flavors) but yet every time the flavor seems to die out after about 45 minutes. I'm only using 2 coconara coal's on a small tangiers phunnel, this in the past has always giving me great success. I'm open to trying any ideas you have! Nerdy
Don't squeeze the "juice" out ... That's where the gypsy tears are giving tangiers it's bold flavor. If you're getting a throat tickle, back off on heat. Tangiers takes very little heat to smoke well. On my small I use 2 exotica silver tabs and thats some low heat for a relatively big bowl. Also, remember that some flavors are more heat sensitive. For example on my small if I use two silver tabs colder to the middle, it will burn and get harsh, but if I use that same bowl and coal on cane mint I can go 3 tabs with no issues. I thought 2 coco's on a small phunnel was bare minimum (I heard most people do 3) I do have a box of japaneese coals (the one eric recommends) I've just never had really good results with them. Nerdy
See modified post above. Try cutting them in half and use 3 halves. Or stonehenge them
Anxiety
ahhhh, I see what you're saying certain flavors can be more sensitive to heat, which makes sense b/c with march cherry it takes a lot of heat to get going. Thanks for the tip, I'll try the and stonehenge it tomorrow, and I'll give the silver tab coals another go around. Maybe even start with one, and work my way to another. Thanks for the tip! appreciate it bro.
Nerdy
Cutting the in half and using 3 halves work very beautifully.
king_lunchb0x
if you were to use coconut coals, eric says its better to split then stone henge. The only thing that comes to mind is once this flavor is opened just doesn't last as long. Over time the flavor dulls. Has it been sitting on your shelf for a while? i haven't smoked pineapple in a while so I can't remember how it acted for me.
king_lunchb0x
i was hoping to find that tangiers.wiki site but no luck. Here is what I was able to find that Eric posted. _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________-- Flavor #6, Pineapple Pineapple is naturally a fairly unstable flavor. This flavor should be used within 1 year of purchase. The flavor itself is slightly stronger when fresh so that after a month or two it won’t be too weak. Its strength seems to be one of its best points. The flavor is rich and coats the mouth, and tastes like a fresh, ripe pineapple. The flavor is highly sensitive to changes in humidity and since the flavor is unstable, its endurance is less than many other flavors. It is still an excellent flavor, and can be mixed with coconut, to make Pina Colada flavor approximately 75% coconut flavored tobacco and 25% pineapple. *humidty resistance =1 (Poor) *endurance=2 (fair) *flavor strength=5 (very strong) *complexity= 4(somewhat complex) *oiliness= 4 (somewhat oily) _____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________- hope this helps understand the flavor a little better. ih303
Contrary to the recommended packing style that you hear so much about for Tangiers, I've noticed the cut of a lot of the flavors change to the point that I just pack it fluffy and to the top of the bowl - regardless of bowl style. As for heat, I use the "flash" method. Basically, I start with three full size CCN's, smoke it just to the point where I'm getting great smoke but I know it's about to get too hot, then pull one coal off and reposition the other two. Using this method I tend to get three to four sets of coals with great flavor. One other thing, I have had some great luck using either an Alien or Harmony bowl with Tangiers. I had issues using my small phunnel with total tobacco usage, i.e. the baccy in the bottom of the bowl wasn't fully getting smoked. Once I switched to a smaller bowl, I got the same great smoke and better tobacco utilization. Give it a try and see if you have any success. :)

But I do the same thing, I've been known to pull a good 6 hours off of a #7 bowl with full flavor. I've never had pineapple, but it could possibly be that it's old. I have tang that's over a year old and it's just now starting to lose flavor. that's the only thing I can really think of. Also I notice some flavors if you give too much heat to it just kills the flavor outright and there is no hope of getting it back once you scorch or burn it. This may also be the case. Instead of using 2 cocos I used 2 japaneese coals (as I heard they give off less heat) the first 45 minutes was a amazing, second round of coals was just as good. I'm going to assume the fluff pack solved this issue and not the heat, but I will throw 2 cocos on in my next session and let you know the results! thank you every one for the awesome responses, love this community! Coyote
If the bowl is doing fine with good flavour and solid clouds then it drops off around the 2nd set of coals, the problem is likely either a) acclimation, b) not stirring your tobacco thoroughly before packing, or c) using your fingers to pack which slowly decreases the amount of juice on the tobacco. I suspect that the problem is possibility b. Be sure you are mixing the tobacco with the juice and breaking up any large chunks as you stir so they can also be coated. You DO NOT want to overcoat or undercoat the tobacco. Also, I noticed that when beginners are learning to pack bowls they take a long time and sometimes they dump it out and start over. The juice will settle very quickly to the bottom of your container so do a little stir before every forkful and also re-stir if you have to start your bowl over and dump it back in. I have a undated version of the ABC with pictures and lots more detail I can send you about Acclimation, packing, and heat management. Just PM me your email address and I'll send it over. Coleman
Seriously guys we go through this every time with Tangiers stop making it such a science it's not that hard. The more you stress about it the more difficult it is. I've given up and just throw it in and pack it down, boom problem solved.
