Better/more Smoke?

Recommended Posts

So im very new to smoking hookahs, and i got interested in them after going to a lounge with my cousin for his birthday. So i looked up some videos on them, and decided to buy one. I got a mya econo, 13 in. so its not very bug, but when i watched the videos online, the people weere blowing huge amounts of smokeand had pretty big hookahs. Now i'm not a "smoker" as in cigerette smoker, so im not looking for a nicotine fix or anything, i just wanna play with the smoke, as i like how it tastes, and my girlfriend is very artitic and thinks its beautiful. So my question is wheni did smoke my hookah, i didnt really get the huge smoke clouds like the people oinline did, is that because i have a small hookah, or does it have to do with the bowl? (i have read things about the vortex and phunnel bowls) also i have quick light coals not any naturals, but am thinking of buying some. Thanks in advance!

It's not the hookah, but rather your experience. This is very typical for beginners. You should have seen me years ago my first time. :O Anyway, you will learn and get better with time. Stick around here and it will only speed up the process. I recommend checking out the Beginner's thread, pinned at the top of the Discussion Group section, to see some of the basics. That will help you a lot. You can use quick light coals, but naturals will treat you better. I prefer natural coconut coals, like Coconaras. Try different brands of tobacco and you will soon find what you like and don't like. Packing and heat management (how many coals you use and where you place them on the bowl) are the two most important aspects to hookah, in my opinion. Play around with both and you will get the cloudage you desire. That's all I've got for now. Hope this helps. Oh, and official welcome to HF. :)

i have recently been telling people if they like the instant light coasl to try the carbopool, they are clean burning and last a good amount of time i just light it and put it in my tray or the ground and break it so i have some pieces to fit around the bowl.

Also you hookah will produce clouds ,just depends on you management and you experience :) chreees suggested the best check out the beginners guide it will help a lot if you have any specific questions keep them coming :)

Okayz, so it seems like trial and error will be my best friend here haha. Thanks though guys, and i probably wont be looking for anything new atm. Ill try what cheeers says and mess around with my coals and packing. I skimmed over the beginners guide right after i got here, the breaking QL coals is something i wanna try and see what happens. And do naturals last longer then QL's? cause the hookah lounge that i went to used disks, but idk of they were naturals or QL's, as the bring the hookah prelit.

P.S. Any recomanded shisha brands? or is that aginst the rules? (sorry i read them, but its late here, and i might not have fully understood them)

Tangiers romman fantasia. Try them out and see what you like and don't like. It's all a personal preferance

what did the lounge you smoked at serve? Good starter tobacco brands would be: Starbuzz, AL fakher, nakhla. Most of those brands can be found locally.Check around middle eastern markets and head shops (most just have SBuzz). NAt coals tend to last longer then most QL's. Some Nat can be found at the same markets as mu'assal. Silver tabs charcoal is alright but can leave a taste and dont last all that long, also That silver coating gets everywhere. guess its time to start trying stuff! and welcome to hf.

Disc coals are almost always quick lights. Lounges use quick lights because they find it easier than waiting on naturals. Real lounges use naturals, IMO. I won't even go to a lounge if I know they use quick lights. That's how much I dislike them. Yes, naturals do tend to last longer than quick lights. My Coconaras last about an average of an hour, depending on how much I fiddle with them (flipping, ashing), which I try not to do much.

As said above, disk coals are almost always quick lights, those will be good or bad depending on brand etc. with those experiment a bit to see what suits your tastes, I do recommend naturals though, generally better in every way :D

I personally don't use coals, but an acetylene torch to heat my bowl. I've found it to be the most efficient and best method.

(Don't do this)

Honestly, I much prefer naturals... almost anybody here prefers naturals over quick lights.

Okay, ive decided to buy some nats then. Now i remember reading somwhere, that people had trouble lighting nats. Like burning through coils and that they take awhile. Thanks for being patient with this rookie >.<

buy yourself a single coil burner online or at cvs/walgreens. You can use your stove but they will mess up over time and can make a mess. nats on a coil burner turned to high take 3-6 minuts each side.

Yeah, they take around 10 minutes to heat fully (flip them when they're 1/2 way lit)   but they last an hour+ and produce less heat (in general) less heat means easier heat management, longer lasting, and more flavorful bowls. In the end they are well worth the initial investment. You can find them at wallgreens as mentioned above for about $10. Mine has lasted me nearly 2 years now. The only issue I've had is the wire connection inside the burner corrodes and breaks off. I simply rewire it and keep on using it! (pretty easy fix, just make sure it's unplugged)

And welcome again, we have no problems with helping new people out. it's why were here! :D

Thanks for the info everyone. Bought some coconaaras and some starbuzz blue mist and romman ivory coast. Just gotta pick up a burner now haha. And i never heard of milk/cream in a hookah. Doesn't sound good to me. But i heard of wine and vodka before. Are those bad for your hookah too? Alcohol is a cleaning/disinfectant, so would those be okay for a hookah? again thanks guys :D

if you put vodka in your base it wont taste good but you might get some sort of a buzz from inhaling the vapors, seems like a waste of vodka to me but to each their own. If you want any tips in real time hop on tinychat through the link at the top of the page, hop on your webcam while youre smoking and if anyone is there they would be glad to help you out.
