grock
Forgive me if this has been posted yet, but I checked in the reviews category and around the boards, but didnt see anything. Anyway, I JUST saw this on my email and wanted to ask the community their thoughts. It can be hard sometimes finding a name-brand Tang bowl, so this seems like a decent choice. I LOVE my Tang Funnel, but I wouldnt mind grabbing this as a back up! What do you guys think? http://5starhookah.com/Predator-Bowl-SWPBT.htm
Chreees
Interesting... I wonder what the capacity is on it, and I wonder how the airflow is. Also, if that small piece is very strong, or is likely to break...
ih303
I think that looks like a great idea. If it's made from the same material as the Tangiers, I'd buy one most def. Great find.
Nerdy
Anyone seen them? Have them? Used/revived them? I can't find too much detail on them aside from what 5star has on their site. Edited April 23, 2013 by Nerdy
ryno
Looks like a good concept. I would worry about how much that would raise the foil in the middle and possibly make coals easier to fall off. Good concept though if you have problems with your foil getting sucked down.
king_lunchb0x
agreed concept seems good, depends really on quality.
grock
Wish I didnt just make an order last week otherwise I would have picked one up.... :/ Next time!
grock
haha I think we have the same thought process. Posted the same question earlier today. Overall, I'm going to give it a try next purchase I make. It'll be a good back up for my Tang bowl. Not to mention its easier to find and cheaper! Dereksd
Seems like an answer to a problem that isnt really there. Most Tang bowls have the proper spire height. Yes there are a few with high spires which is gonna happen with handmade products but the predator design seems like its come up with a fix for a problem most people dont have. Also with the idea of handmade products that I brought up, I see there being problems with the piece that goes over the spire. I can already see cases of it being too big and the effect it would have on the bowls draw. End of the day, just poke a middle hole.
grock
I agree! I think tang people call it "Foil-Drag"? Regardless, I have never had much of an issue, and as you stated, you can just poke a hole in the middle. My main point, is that it is cheap and readily available. If the bit in the middle gets obtrusive, I suppose one could always dremel it off.
Dereksd
True. I guess it just depends on who is making them ( just says a local tang smoker so pretty sure they arent from the same guy who makes the real tang bowls but I could obviously be wrong). The quality will dictate if they should be considered cheap (as in a good deal) or cheap ( as in built poorly). Also there is no post about size which sucks. You could be getting a great size bowl or you could be getting something undesirable to what you wanted.
Chreees
I'll merge the two threads later... This sort if thing happens when a new product comes out and folks are interested about it. :)
CJ Rastian
For those of you who don't know, active tangiers smoker Jordan Schnopp has created and distributed a new bowl called the "predator bowl". It completely eliminates the possibility of foil blocking the spire with a bar located at the top(see pics). I picked one up today from 5 star hookah and smoked it for the first time and its awesome! Flow is unbelievable and smoke is thick and fluffy. If you are a tangiers smoker I highly recommend picking one up! Mine is about the size of my small bowl, but they vary so check em out!
Coyote
I imagine if the coals don't roll off a FSB they wouldn't roll off from that bar. I'm interested to hear the feedback on this bowl.

I think this problem is more common than a lot of people think. At my old lounge and also at the lounge that I frequent now, it has always been common practice to use some sort of skewer through the top of the foil when the foil on the phunnel starts to sag. I prefer this to using a center hole.
Twitchy
the guy who makes these smokes alot of tangiers, these are made with the same quality clay as tang bowls and the walls are think, ive heard from people using these airflow is not a issue either and seem to have positive thoughts about them so far, reviews will be up soon for them seems like a great alternative to a tang bowl due to price and availability

Stuie
I can see the point of it... to an extent, but if you are packing your bowls up to the rim and putting at least one hole over the center, that "Training" bar isn't needed.

Pavo21
I was suppsoed to get one for sampling but never did :((( but the idea is good, but i feel that its more for the handy capable people that have issues, which is a lot of people. but it is a good idea for those that have issues
mushrat
There you have it..... I'll stick to my phunnels but it IS an interesting concept.
fineout
i had a medium with a tall spire, i would just use the sticks from my nak to go across it

ih303
I can see the point of it... to an extent, but if you are packing your bowls up to the rim and putting at least one hole over the center, that "Training" bar isn't needed. I don't think it's necessarily needed, I just see it as making it easier to maintain. Fresh foil always seems to sag from the vacuum created in the bowl. And I've tried the center hole but still resort to skewering the foil until it stiffens up. I guess it's just a preference thing. Yea but did that lounge(s) use tangiers bowls or knock offs? I own 15 tang bowls and have owned over 25 and I have had the spire problem on one. All original. It's not a spire issue, it just seems to happen unless you overpack your bowl. I've just seen this happen so many times, I can appreciate a new product that eliminates this problem altogether.
â€On
Maybe it's just me, but branding means a lot to me. When I heard about this bowl (and, subsequently, every time I hear about it now), I think of a fat guy in sweat pants with a big belly hanging out and a pencil moustache, hanging out by his mid 80's Van-Amera van with a teardrop window in the back and an airbrushed mural of unicorns and jesus riding a dragon while holding a flaming sword and rainbows and galaxies and shit. I don't want to smoke from that.
