Acru44
Do you really inahle it? I know the coal gets very hot (600-800F) and from what I've read and tested the shisha only gets to about 300-400F. To test it, I smoke for like 10-20 minutes and then pull off the foil and use an infrared thermometer on the shisha, it almost always fell between the 300-400 range. Nicotine has a boiling point of 477F, so if the tobacco isn't reaching that temp, the nicotine shouldn't be in the vapor right? Am I missing something? mustang67n
Interesting thought. But if you're getting a reading of 400F and the coals (when you're inhaling) get hotter, It's plausible that the temperature reaches that point, especially when packing bowls to the foil, etc. I'm sure there's a way to test if there is nicotine in the vapor too. Interesting thoughts though. Either way, I have no gripes against nicotine.
mushrat
My thoughts exactly. When you hit the hookah the air flow past the coals sharply increases the temp. Alo, just from observation I can pretty safely say I am getting nicotine in my system when smoking the shisha. :)

Acru44
ok, I didn't think about the temp spike when inhaling, thanks for your input everyone.
joytron
It has a flash point much lower than that.
ih303
I think it could be argued that the buzz a lot of people get could be attributed to oxygen deprivation and/or CO from the coals. Although, I notice the hotter a bowl is, the bigger the buzz. THAT kind of buzz I would definitely attribute to nicotine.

jorlyfish
Yeah, I'm with others on the observational evidence. Having nonsmokers come and have a bowl of Tangiers with me have me pretty convinced on that one, haha.

sheldon
hi there. im pretty sure that nicotine gets vaporized and more efficient than with smoking cigs. i think thats because: a) the nicotine gets dissolved in glycerine, which then acts as a carrier, when its steaming. so it doesnt really need to have a temp high enough to vaporize nicotine directly. e-cigs work the same way. and b: the hooka is probably just so low in temp, because the glycerine acts as a coolant. once the glycerine is gone, the pipe would naturally get hotter and have enough heat to vape nicotine anyway.
