Something Girlie?

Recommended Posts

Really interesting concept as far as marketing, however, considering the demographics of the online hookah market (about 70% male) they are really pidgeon holing themselves. To market something as girly, for one thing, isn't going to turn off guys from trying it. Naming it PMS, or wink, will likely turn them off.

AH. marketing BY men FOR women. Because we always know what they want....*snort*

No. 1 rule of womanhood..... If you even suspect a man has figured out the rules, change them.

Well, if its women running the company, then it's not sexist. If its men running the company, it's sexist as far as I can tell.

Philisophical debate time.. wouldn't it be sexist to suggest that it's sexist depending on the sex of who said it?

I've always thought about that. If it's sexist when guys say it, but not sexist when women say it, isn't that sexist in an of itself? Or am I alone here? lol

This is the fun one while it is sexist if a man says it when a woman says it,it could be taken in a positive manner even meant to be empowering.

See that's where I get all caught up. To me I'd think it would have to do with the situation, not necessarily what is said but how it's said.

Of course the situation and manner in which something is said plays a part in how it comes off.  In ad campaigns such as Something Girlie, it could easily come of as a man thinking "Ooooh I know what girls will like lets make this a pink and girlie as possible!  We can have feminine art styles and flowers and all out art will be pictures of girls smoking hookah.  Girls will eat this up!"  Alternatively this could be something a female entrepreneur feels is empowering to women.  I still feel that it comes off as something sexist a woman has directed towards women thinking they will just eat it up.
