AZHookahMan
As a Hookah enthusiast in Arizona, I was curious what the response would be to getting a Hookah Convention together, kinda like how Cigar Afficionado has their Big Smoke Nights. I'm interested in looking into the planning of an annual local event in Arizona somewhere and see if I can get some big names out to sponsor, get some vendor space for local stores, food stuffs. Probably will be an outdoor event, given AZ's smoking laws. Just kinda wanted to see what others in the community think about such an undertaking. Tyler
Well, it's a good idea for the people in the area. Some of our members at EKU put on a biannual HookahPalooza which is really starting to take off. Not many members travel though -- it's just the truth of the matter. Now if there were more incentive to go to an event and if it was easy to get to (outside of about 10-15 members a lot of us live in the midwest/east coast/south) more people would come. I honestly don't see many people buying a plane ticket or driving more than 4-5 hours to go to a hookah gathering. With that being said, it would be nice to see. I know there was just a big expo in Vegas, hookah palooza as I said earlier, and that places like Social Smoke often let you tour the facility and host gatherings sometimes. If you're looking for sponsors you better have a plan to explain to them how this will help them and know what you're talking about. Especially if you want big names such as Tangiers, Social Smoke, or vendors like (banned) texashookah or hookah-shisha.
