Recommended Posts

The last two look legit but the others are a little shady. I'm no expert by any means tho. Just adding my $0.02

I too think the last two look legit, the first two eh. The middle one looks like a Magdy Zidan with the snap on tray, except... they have the tray as a base tray -_- fail.

That first one is Iranian. Are you located near DC? I was randomly searching DC craigslist and the other three came up, but not that one.

Blasted Iranians and their carved pipes, I'm wondering if it is made for tombac only?

The last two should be worth more than 50. But keep looking them up to see if you can find anything about them

pretty much.

Last one is a KM "candlestick" (sham'adan in Arabic), it is nickel coated brass, quite heavy.  Will last forever. It's often called the "cafe" (and infinite misinformed spelling variations) model, because so many Arabic cafes use it because its a good value and indestructible. $50 is about right.

Second to last might be a Timsah, quality Egyptian line. The middle one is definitely an MZ, the second to left, also perhaps.

I'd say the MZs are worth less than 40, the other two are worth 50, since they're brass.

Are you guys sure the first is a Tombac only pipe ? Im thinking for 30 $ I might pick it up just because it looks cool .

Any one know what the fourth is ?

Just by the style and looking at it it is a tombac pipe. Doesn't mean you can't smoke hookah tobacco out of it, just means it's meant for tombac. (Tombac is dry tobacco that you soak in water, throw it in a clay/metal tombac bowl and set the coals directly on top of the moist tobacco.) Incase you didn't know! :)

It's most likely not very perfectly airtight. This isn't a huge deal for tonbaak since it's about flavor not smoke. Also being wood it will absorb flavors very easily. Not an issue again if you only ever smoke unflavored stuff out of it, but i wouldn't use it for more than 1 flavor.

Fourth one I'm pretty sure is a Timsah.

Well, "solid" is not quite what you think it means, but I wouldn't say that one is overpriced. $50 is a good deal

Oh, it's not brass? Or at least solid brass?

It's brass, but what people call "solid brass" is typically just very heavy but hollow construction, if it's a large shape. Something like the KM Sham'adan is probably 100% solid, because it's fairly slender.

So you reckon that the big balls would be hollow but the slimmer parts solid?
