No, you're good, that bowl is LOADED with coals though, you need less and smaller coals. I see that they're round sticks. Make the length equal to the height, right now the length is double the height and you have 3of then. It's too much

sry for the crappy pic of the bowl before.

the one i posted lastly shows the size of the bowl, compared to the coals better.

Also, bigger holes in your foil will help heat escape from the bowl and will help keep it from getting too hot. To a point... Try bigger holes, you say that was nakhla mint, nakhla can take the heat without many problems, try bigger holes, less coals. That should have you near perfect

Are they using the same brand of coals?

yes, same brand.

it's a brand from paraguay, that people buy very cheap... it's the best coco brand we get here in brazil for a decent price.

about 15USD for 1kg.

I used to use the metal tip of my compasses, to get to the bottom.

they can at least pierce holes that are double the size of this pushpin i'm using,

Getting to the point where you have flavorful thunderclouds I'd an art and each brand of shisha comes with a different technique. For nakhla I use a fork to poke my holes, for al Fakher I use a needle and less coal. Try this... Get the nakhla mint, pack it into a phunnel, pack it to the rim, put foil on it, poke a fork into it several times, take one hot coal and put it directly in the center of the bowl with a wind cover. Follow those steps to the letter and you will have a great tasting smoke. When you feel confident that it can take more heat, add a second coal and remove the wind cover. When you want more heat add the windcover. When the heat dies again you can add a third coal .

And I know tgat putting a coal in the center of a bowl is going to fly in the face of everything you'll read but guess what.... I do it and it's fine

i'll try everything you're suggesting, bro.

Looks like you're using an Egyptian bowl. Be sure to blow through the bottom of the bowl after poking the holes to ensure airflow. Poke to the bottom and use plenty of holes. Two coals of 1 inch in length should be plenty. Pack semi dense.
