redwingsoverbaron Posted May 23, 2013 Share Posted May 23, 2013 okay, so my general preferred tobacco is AF (don't suggest other brands please, ive tried a good majority and like them too, i just lean more towards AF) well recently out of the blue, about half way through the bowl, i get this ridiculously strong burning... almost a plastic taste. not even harsh... just terrible fucking flavor. I don't get it bc ive smoked AF for years, this is a recent problem.. like in the last week problem. Any insight? something stupid im just looking over for no reason? i use a Crown V4, HD foil, leos/coconaras. ive been experimenting, im just at a loss. I swear, I put like just a little into the bottom of an Egyptian so there's like 1/4" to 1/2" below the rim and then do foil and coal as usual and it's great. I have no clue why. Maybe they have recently changed their formula or they could have changed a supplier that processes the molasses or corn syrup differently. But by accident when I was desperate for a bowl of AF vanilla and I only had about half a tablespoon left if I scraped the container, I ended up with the best smoke. I think the story was they were switching manufacturing techniques or machines -- something like that. Rani, I may need to try what you suggest. I noticed the same as OP that half way through the bowl it turns to crap. I think the cut is slightly rougher, more choppy than mushy. I always try to pay attention to manufacture dates and my last batch from Oct 2012 have been that different cut. The grapefruit flavor has been excellent though. I'm with you on this one bro, I was mad about AF DA until recently and then started getting all those issues you mentioned in your post. I've been experimenting but wasn't getting anywhere and it's been driving me nuts, and the worst thing is I've still got lots of it left. I was thinking perhaps get some Nak da and mix it up so my AF doesn't all go to waste because I would be extremely pissed if I had to just throw it all out. I've never been one to look for thunder clouds because I'm usually watching a movie or on the computer when I'm smoking and constantly waving the clouds away is more of a pain in the ass than anything. I am ALL about the flavor and this seems to work. Have no clue why, but ever since AF totally screwed the pooch on grape, I take what I can get when it comes to them. redwingsoverbaron Posted May 24, 2013 Author Share Posted May 24, 2013 i dig it, lately when i smoke its just before/when i get off work, and all im doing is facebooking or on the forums, (dammit i need a new game) so i like seeing how close i can get to the best of both worlds with flavor and clouds. ill take flavor any day, but if i can have clouds too, then ill jump all over it. also i did the same method in my V4, i loose packed it in completely under the holes, like seriously, maybe 10 grams if that, and im getting pretty great results, its funny how it works, not complaining though, AF is already pretty cheap, and if i can get 10 grams or less out of a bowl im pretty satisfied. and mujahid, i get it, though the DA ive been having has been pretty nice, but some flavors have just not been cooperating with me, ive been blaming user error, but maybe not. also i tried golden DA for the first time the other dya, and its pretty good, but it has less anise, idk why.. i figured it would be stronger, good non the less Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
