Does Anyone Else...

Recommended Posts

I know what he's talking about.  I use that setup a lot.  I put like two or three rounds of holes beginning at the outside edge.  I do usually put one in the middle to allow for some airflow down the center spire, but then I drop the coals onto the center where there are no holes.  Works quite well.  And I've even used that set up on a regular Egyptian bowl for tobaccos that like a lot of heat.

Did you cut down on the amount of coal?  Remember, the fewer holes, the hotter the bowl is going to get under the foil.  I usually use this method with a single coconut coal.

Does it work with tangiers? Pics or it didn't happen? Coal?

Nice pun there Chris

I don't do the whole take pictures of my setup thing.  But yeah, I've used it on Tangiers, however, in that case I use a Japanese coal and still have to break it into pieces because we know Tangiers likes lower all over heat.

i've tried this, i mess around with a lot of coal and packing methods but prefer my normal way. nothing ever seems to be "better" then the boring way.

I also tried that method once with my Crown Micro and it didn't work out too good. I'm pretty sure it sagged the foil in the middle and blocked a good amount of airflow. :\

Yes, I played around with this method on separate occassions.... First when TwoApplesPlease brought about the whole "inverse phunnel" method and also when Coyote promoted putting coals in the middle instead of on the edge. I have always found myself falling back onto the old and trusted method of edging them.
