Being a Hookah Noob Sucks

Recommended Posts

After waiting anxiously to get my Mya QT, it finally came! Ripped the box open, took out all the pieces and began smoking within 30 minutes or so. I got Romman Peach, and Romman Double Apple, both "High Quality" Shisha. However, I am having the worlds largest time getting a decent flavour / smoke quality since I got it -- I ordered it from HS, and am using all the coals / shisha / etc. that you get from them. The Hookah hits very nice, but if any of you have some advice as to water levels, type of foil / screens to use, and shisha flavor / brands, I'd love you all. I know there are posts abou this all over the forums, but here is another chance for everyone to help someone out as well as make me happy -- Thanks in advance to all who respond!-Andrew

Put water in base.Put mouth to hose-plug, suck as hard as you can. If you get water in your mouth, lower water level. Put Shisha in bowl.Put foil over bowl.Poke holes all over foil.Light coal. When coal is hot all over, place on foil (a sizzle is good).Inhale.Exhale.Repeat as desired. Add new coal when old one dies.

A good rule of thumb for determining a solid water level is to make sure it's anywhere from .5"-1" above the bottom of the stem. Anything over that is overkill, and like mentioned above can cause water to get into your hose.As for your lack of flavor, there are a lot of posibilities as to why you arn't getting much flavor. Experiment with the way you pack your bowl, ie: pack it tighter/looser, leave a bigger gap between the foil and your tobacco or a smaller gap, mess around with the size of your holes in the foil and also the number of holes. As for the coals, I would recomend using as much heat as you can without burning the tobacoo. So if you use one, try adding two next time. Find the point where it starts to burn and get harsh, then take a bit of heat away. This point will give you the most smoke/flavor possible without breaking over into the burning zone.Don't feel bad because you can't get your hookah working perfectly. It takes everyone some time to develope their technique. With a bit of practice and time, you will be the guru amongst your friends in no time, just don't get discouraged. We're here to help ^_^

Yeah, i got a REALLY bad batch of romman peach. I got it to smoke well, but the flavor was pretty lack luster. I was pretty disappointed with my purchase, and now i'm sitting on top of around 200g of useless romman peach :(. I haven't had too much good luck with romman cherry or melon either(thank God i only bought 50g) I was thinking of spreading it around the garden as furtilizer :P.

As far as water level goes, it's pretty tricky for the QT, for us at least, cause it's really hard to see through the dark blue vase. Anways, everyone recommended that you fill up a Poland Springs water bottle, something around 16.9 ounces. Measured it out into a different bottle and found that it seemed like it was too much. I found a good level for water is to get a normal Gatorade bottle:and fill it up to around this height:Sorry for the crappy picture but it was the only Gatorade bottle that I could find that didn't have the label. Basically, we just fill it up to around the top of the oval indentations seen in the crappy paint photoshop. Hope this helps even though I know it probably won't.

I'd advise what Yash sed.The other thing is that hookahing is both a science and n art. Your particular "fancy" as to how it smokes is an art that you must use the "science" to perfect.I would suggest working on heat transfer and management. These things take time. Try breaking your cola up into smaller sizes and strategically place them and see how that does. Take mental notes as to how often you are taking a draw as to how much you ned to reposition the coals. Try loading your bowl different. Experiment with the "airspace" packing method vs. The "contact" method. Also think about the the foiling. Try bigger holes.. or less holes..... or more holes.......... or smaller holes.Sounds fiddley..... but it is in the beginning till you "dial in" your game.
