Odd Cooling Sensation (Homemade Clove Shisha)

Recommended Posts

I have been smoking for about 4 years now and finally decided to try my hand at making my own shisha.  I was going to start with a Vanilla, but after reading up a bit on alcohol based flavorings (all I had was vanilla extract) I decided to go with a dry ingredient I had lying around the house, ground cloves.  I made it last week and it has sat for about 5-7 days before I finally got a chance to sit down and smoke it.  Visually it looks quite good (sorry, no pictures right now), and I can even taste a bit of clove when smoking it (very light, but it is there.....also it is producing decent sized clouds).  However, there is an odd type of cooling sensation I am getting from this blend.  It almost feels like the cooling sensation one would have from smoking mint.  I am wondering if this is something associated with one of the ingredients I used (possibly the clove itself).  Below is a list of ingredients in the shisha.

-American Spirit Red (boiled twice)

-Heritage Store Vegetable Glycerin

-Virginia Blend Honey

-Grandmas Molasses

-McCormick ground cloves

My hookah setup

-Mya QT

-Nammor hose

-standard Mya bowl

-CH Coconut Coals

Input would be greatly appreciated

its the clove.

this is normal for clove...I suppose you never smoked a djarm?

I actually used to smoke cloves years ago but smoked them like a cigar (only really puffing) for the flavor on my lips.  Not a big fan of cigarettes.  Thanks for the quick response.  Assumed it was the clove, but since it was my first batch of any type of homemade shisha I was curious if anything else I used could have been the culprit.

Thanks :)

  • 4 weeks later...

I make a homemade concoction like this myself and use it often...usually, when in trouble or in doubt...add more clove.  But that's my take on everything.  Also, this is my first post in a long, long time...good to be back!
