Blue Lantern
So I finally got that SS Aurora but it took me forever to pull the stem off from the base. And its damn near impossible to stick back on.What are some methods i could use to "break in" or loosen the rubber so that the stem goes onto the base easier? Johnny_D
I had this problem initially.Give the rubber a good coating of vaseline. And also I still use water to help insert it. To extract the stem i found (GENTLY) rocking it side to side whilst pulling helped. If it's a real pain, then consider shaving the rubber to reduce it's size [Very dangerous practice, over do it - your stuffed!]JD
Blue Lantern
Won't greasing the sucker up with vasoline just make the base and stem oily? Would this damage/tarnish the metal on the stem?
Anpu
I use dishwasher soap after every use... water when I'm setting everything up. Works for me... dunno how bad oil would be but just don't overdue it with whatever you use for lube. As long as you don't it won't affect anything but how easy/difficult the stem is to get out of the base. You don't need to put it ANYWHERE but on the rubber where it comes in contact with the glass. EvansLight
water is your friend. And dont rock when pulling out, twist it, it will get it off easier.

Johnny_D
Wot i meant to say was... i ran a knife around the inside of the rubber seal to help reduce the friction... a little at a time until it was a little easier to insert the stem.JD - King of double entrades! Sonthert
Um, people...you know what they use in Chemistry labs? Glycerine! get some juice from the bottom of the tobacco, just a dot or two and use that.
