How do you loosen rubber seal stem/base?

Recommended Posts

I had this problem initially.Give the rubber a good coating of vaseline. And also I still use water to help insert it. To extract the stem i found (GENTLY) rocking it side to side whilst pulling helped. If it's a real pain, then consider shaving the rubber to reduce it's size [Very dangerous practice, over do it - your stuffed!]JD

I use dishwasher soap after every use... water when I'm setting everything up. Works for me... dunno how bad oil would be but just don't overdue it with whatever you use for lube. As long as you don't it won't affect anything but how easy/difficult the stem is to get out of the base. You don't need to put it ANYWHERE but on the rubber where it comes in contact with the glass.
water is your friend. And dont rock when pulling out, twist it, it will get it off easier.
See, I used to do this, but i'm damn sure i felt something shift in the stem [The little smoke release dealio]EvansLight is of course correct as it *could* crack the glass i guess.I Did shave my rubber and it's a little easier now.JD
