mattarios2
So I have never EVER had issues with nakhla acclimating whether it be summer, spring, winter, or fall. Lately raspberry, blueberry, and a couple others have been nothing but trouble. Smell wonderful out of the box, then I pack, poke holes a few hours later and smells awful. If I acclimate them they just get slightly sweet and that's it and tastes the same, like basically nothing. Now I always run a dehumidifier in my basement in the summer since it is uber humid here. One thing to consider is the last 2 weeks our weather has been nothing but trouble. Possible chance of thunderstorms like every day, and overcast, then sunny, then overcast, then sunny, constantly changing. But I figured since I keep the humidity set to a certain humidity with my dehumidifier the outdoors wouldn't matter much since I keep the basement constant. How do you guys feel about all of that? Do you think from the dehumidifier going on and off on and off, it is mixing up dry, and moist air throughout my basement? The basement is pretty large, it is not a small room. The dehumidifier does it's own thing and goes on and off constantly throughout the day, and during smoking as well. I am just baffled as I have NEVER had an issue with Nakhla, she is, and always will be my work horse. Maybe I should try acclimating outside one night and smoking outside with one of the trouble flavors? In my current stash the following have been fine: orange peach, ice apple, margarita, guava, og peach, og coconut, og mango, and a couple others. look at this link for my location, despite dew point being constant it has been almost nothing but overcast, very VERY odd weather this past week or two. http://www.intellicast.com/Local/Observation.aspx?chart=Dew%20Point Any thoughts? Opinions? I am just baffled, and needed to vent :-/
kaoz187
THINK YOUR PROBLEM IS THAT U NEED TO SEND EM TO ME TO TRY OUT ;) BUTTTTT THE ONLY REASON WOULD BE THE WEATHER.? SEEMS LIKE THE ONLY LOGICAL REASON. GO FOR IT! SMOKE EM OUTSIDE. THEN TELL US THE RESULTS. Edited July 11, 2013 by kaoz187
Pavo21
idk how to handle acclimation issues, i remember reading on .us about some guy making a room that is the same humidity to SD but using certain plants and a dehumidifier i think he lived in alabama or something. but good luck buddy :() sorry im no help
Chreees
I bitchslap my tobacco to acclimate it. Tough love! :P Nah seriously, I have never had issues with Nak, so hope you can figure it out, John.
Bawhee
this happens to me sometimes in the summer when weather goes from storm and humidity to sunshine and dry twice a day or something, and with the unstable atmosphere some nak flavors get a bit weak. not all of them though
Skoozle
So you are packing and wrapping the bowl in foil then poking hiles a few hours later when you are ready to smoke? I think that might be at least part of the problem. How sensative are the dehumidifier controls? Like is it a little humid right be fore it turns on for a cycle? Is it pretty dry at the end of a cycle? Or does it keep it in a relatively tight range? if your tobacco is more or less sealed up in a bowl when it is dry (or humid) then you poke holes when it is humid (or dry) that could give the tobacco in the bowl a shock. I guess you keep the other 225g in a container after you open a box? Does the rest of the tobacco smell funky too? I havent had any trouble with Blueberry or Orange Peach lately. I'm sure our weather isn't as bad as yours, but it has been nasty humid here.
mattarios2
It is extremely humid here and it literally goes from rain, to thunder, to sun, to rain, to thunder, to sun, it is freaking weird. Has been going on for like 10 days now. The dehumidifier keeps it relatively the same, I have a relative humidity meter down there and it always keeps the humidity between 50-53%, I know dewpoint is more accurate but those meters are more expensive. Usually the dehumidifier turns on for a couple mins, then shuts off for like 20 min and goes back and forth throughout the day.

mattarios2
Yeah it sucks, I just thought nakhla could handle ANYTHING, I guess god owns :-/ But yes, the weather lately, has been like nothing I have ever seen in my location. At least only a few flavors are struggling. I am mad though because I am bringing the hookah to my girlfriends aunt and uncles house tomorrow for them and her cousins to try, wanted to bring raspberry and blueberry but orange peach, ice lemon mint, and ice apple will have to do ... can't bring og stuff as I think they may puke, they aren't tobacco users and og is a little more rough for newcomers than mizo is IMO. twoapplesplease
guessing with the newer higher amount glycerin flavors and weather could cause this, even with a dehumidifier, barometric pressure could be playing a role with it. IDk mix in some mizo mint , that should give it some flavor LOL
mattarios2
yeah speaking of barometric pressure, what is considered a "significant" change in pressure? Doesn't it mostly have to do with humidity and temp? I will say this, the humidity is way lower in my basement then outside, and the temperature is consistently 78-83 down there, so usually about the same at night and cooler during the day. DrSmokes
Yeah, I had 1 bad batch of Mizo Blueberry in the past (I made a post too). Almost 8 months later, and it smells worse than it did when I first bought it and opened it. I've tried everything and it's gone through a few seasons now which I thought would have helped but it didn't. I'm now hoping that what you are sending me won't have the same issue :/ I'm not sure if it's just blueberry either...bc I bought a kilo of Fantasia's Blueberry Splash and it tasted similar to the Mizo Blueberry plastic-like taste. Sadly, H-S didn't refund me the whole thing and I have a whole kilo that I'm hoping one of these seasons will fix it...so far, gone through end of winter, spring and now summer and it still tastes like monkeyassjuice. mattarios2
yeah to be honest, blueberry has always been finicky for me. Never was CRAZY blueberry flavor like most reviews say. Must be something to do with blueberry flavoring. I really think the dehumidifier is what is causing the issue though. Here goes to a moldy basement so I can have an enjoying smoke :-)
kaoz187
The fantasia blueberry was amazing for me but that was in 50gram samller. That might make a difference

That might make a difference Why do you think I bought the kilo? lmao I LOVED it...was my all time favorite flavor. I still have a few things I want to try before I throw it out. It doesn't even work as a filler...just ruins any bowl.
mattarios2
You talking about fantasia or mizo? I remember trying fantasia's bluebery, and I do remember really enjoying it. I just feel washed tobaccos are "missing something" in the smoke. They don't appeal to me the way unwashed tobaccos do.

I've had problems with both but I bought a kilo of fantasia and it turned out tasting like shit. H-S told me that the taste varies from batch to batch...but I told them it tasted like sweetened plastic. I even offered to ship it back to them so they can taste it themselves. It's very weak and bland, with a plastic undertone. Where as my Mizo Blueberry straight up smelled and tasted like plastic. I think it may be the blueberry flavoring going bad or something. mattarios2
And I have had no issues with ice rasp. What did you notice from it? I have heard throat tickle? A bit of airing out solves that one.

Skoozle
I packed a bowl of Orange peach Sunday when it was crazy hot and even more humid. We were outside by the Chesapeake Bay. It tasted like hot soap. It smelled good in the box though. Guess I found it's limits.
mattarios2
Yeah nak can be funky but it really has to be a crazy crazy change in weather. In nine years of smoking nak I've only had issues twice thus summer. And it seems to only happen w mizo. All non mizo/ice/mix is a frickin tank and can be smoked in a sauna w no issues.
