Hookah Identification

Recommended Posts

I've had this particular hookah for quite some time now...actually, its been around since before I was born, so the families had it for over 20 years. My parents personally bought it in Kuwait, and its pretty much a house decoration sense then. I'm fairly certain its made from brass, and the whole thing screws together. Anyway, my question is, do you think this thing can be smoked out of, or is it more of a decorative thing? And heres the picture links...The whole hookah - http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y215/Mach...55/IM000083.jpgThe Inside Of the bowl -http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y215/Mach...55/IM000084.jpgHose and such - http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y215/Mach...55/IM000085.jpgThe bowl is obviously more suited for Zagouhl smoking, as its 3 inches deep. Any kind of info would be great.

It can be smoked out of as long as its air tight. If it is an antique that you are affraid might lose some value if smoked out of, then you probably shouldn't. But if value isn't a factor, then like I said, as long as its air tight, should be able to smoke it.

Well, even if its possible, I probably won't. Its just that its been around for as long as I can remember, (actually, staring at it for my entire life made me want to buy my own), and I wanted to know if it was useable, or if what I own is a giant paperweight.

Well if you just want to know if it's usable, just cover your hand over the top of the stem so no air can get through, and suck through the hose port. If you can't pull any air through, then it is air tight, and a working hookah. But I'd agree, I wouldn't smoke out of anything that old. Not to say its dangerous, but I'd want to preserve it rather than smoke out of it.

my Paki freind has the exact same one. Same situation. He has had it sitting in the living room all his life and a few months back we decided it was time. We unscrewed the head portion and poured some water till it was about right. We packed it up some shisha, wraped it and threw a coal on top. It worked. but I would not reccommend using it. IMO it just didn't seem right to use it so we stoped after the session and put it back to its corner.

Sort of "Bidri" esque job.I doubt that it is from the from the the 1700's like most of the better work in that fasion is found. Do you have any kind of idea about the age? The hose doesnt look partiicularly old in that pic.. I could be wrong.Im curious as to what your folks gave for it. Some of the actual antique hookahs of that design are worth thousands just for the base alone. If you have the notion.. google up Bidri Huqqa or Bidri Hukka..... some really neat old pieces floating around out there.

Well, I was more worried about wether it was an Indian type, that couldn't be used at all...and yeah, I decided long ago that I'd rather have it as a nice addition to my collection than as a working model.Oh and Lakemonster...My parents tell me, that they bought it for $20 in 1982. And it wasn't Kuwait, like I assumed, they bought it in Saudi Arabia.

Yeah, you could use it, take the head off and try a standard bowl on there...I think its just a standard hookah with a mid-shank metal water holder do-dad. Need to use a good hose. Need to clean it out real well. Imagine it with a standard bowl...it woulld just be hookah without a tray. I think it was more intended for tombak/jurak.
