Abdallah Abbas Al-Ameli
Hi, I'm new to this board so I'm sorry if I didn't post this in the right section... But I always heard from people in Lebanon that Tanbak/Ajami was supposed to be healthier than masaals, is this true at all? If so, then why? If not, I would like to know why too... I am not an expert in understanding the ingredients such as what makes it worse than the other and etc... What about tanbak compared to cigarettes as well? Hassouni
Given that 'ajami is burned directly, I can't see how it's healthier at all. The only ingredient is tobacco - which you are combusting rather than heating/vaporizing as with mu'assal. When you finish the head, there is lots of ash from the tobacco, which you don't get with mu'assal. It's probably MARGINALLY healthier than cigarettes, a) because of all the extra crap that's put in cigarettes and b) because the tobacco is wet, you're also getting some steam/vaporization - the burning is not as harsh as with a cigarette or cigar. I can smoke mu'assal for two hours but 'ajami only for 20-30 minutes before I feel it's time to stop
Abdallah Abbas Al-Ameli
Lol wow thanks... but the weird thing is I'm told the older people in Lebanon smoke tanbak because mu'assal is worse and heavier than tanbak... so I don't know what's going on... this is the iranian tanbak right? The esfahani ajami?
Hassouni
yes. Older people smoke it because that's what they're used to, and also the good stuff has a very solid tobacco taste. Most mu'assal is fruity and sweet and they try to hide the tobacco.
