A Little Help With A Shisha Related Application.

Recommended Posts

Hey guys!

I'm quite new here I guess, and I came to ask for help.

So I wrote an Android application which is supposed to help group of friends in their shisha sessions by sending alarm if someone blocks the shisha for too long, or showing usage statistics at the end of the session, etc.

For a couple of days I am looking around the internet, and trying to find people, who are willing to give some advices, on what kind of extra features would be great to have in the application, or would like to tell, how good/bad/etc it is, and what to improve at the first place.

If the idea of having some sort of evidence of "Joe is always keeping the shisha for himself like forever" sounds reasonable, or you just would like to try it out, please drop me a PM. Or of course, if the staff is okay with an app name or link, I can provide it as well, its already on play - just didnt want to spam. :)

Thank you for not advertising/spamming the app's name. You must have read our rules. :) Anyway, I think you to need to understand the dynamics of hookah a bit more before going forward with this app. The example you gave, please take no offense, makes pretty much no sense, and sounds very "bro-ish." Is this app marketed towards that crowd, or are you wanting a more diverse crowd using your app? Now where I think you are onto something is the statistics aspect of this... Hookah fiends love to record and keep track of how long a certain bowl/flavor lasted, how the packed it, etc. If you could focus on this you might have a nice app. But, on the other hand, I could just use a piece of paper and pencil to keep statistics of my hookah sessions... However you choose to move forward with this, good luck.

What it seems to me anyway, it's pretty much timing how long people stay on the hose and you can set time limits before they are "supposed" to pass? If so, I think this would be more of a hassle than anything. Now you are focusing on this app instead of enjoying yourself, possible having to hit a button to stop an annoying ringer every so often. It just doesn't seem appealing to me.

Pretty sure if I pulled a timing app with a group of friends, i would spend the evening getting made of fun of which would ruin the session... if they ever gave me the hose back.

Hmm... Well, in fact I am using Shisha for 6 years by now, and the problem I described usually happens, when about 8-10 people are sitting together with one shisha only. Sometimes it's like you have to wait about 15 minutes, and it is always a hassle between the members continously, and I wanted to give a centralized control over the situation. We tried it a couple of times so far, and after 10-15 minutes, when everyone gets used to it, it seems so, that does not affect or ruin the discussion and the good mood at all. Of course it may depend on the group itself, but so far we did not experience any kind of negative effect just because of using such an app.

On the other hand the idea about categorizing and rating the different kind of shisha flavors sounds great, I think I'll do it, however seems to a quite big development if the experiences should be shared with others as well...

im guessing when u say 8-10 people sitting around one shisha u mean around a hookah. yes if there is that many people theres gunna be a long wait...if there is that many people smoking it would be better to get another hookah or as you would put it "shisha" going. 4 people to a pipe is a good number. maybe even 5

Honestly if you're going to have an app just to make a record of who's a hose hog, I don't really need an app for that... I just can tell I haven't had the hose for a while and I politely ask for it to be handed to me. :)

hes never going to reply back lol after getting hassled. but if you have that many people, PITCH IN AND BUY ANOTHER HOOKAH!! my god quit being cheap. between that many people you should be able to afford to buy another one for the group. also yah waiting 15 minutes for the hose to come back is understandable with that many people.

Also i have a app for it, its called the stop watch on my watch and my phone. super cheap its free.
