lucy-ford
Basically what the title says. I am a recovering addict myself and grew up in a family of addicts and alcoholics. I was wondering if anyone has thoughts on the nature of addiction in general, or their own stories and struggles to share.
wvloony
I can not say I am an addict, or a recovering one. And personally I would feel like im insulting you to try and put myself in that place. I will say keep up the good work on keeping off of whatever had your life in grips. My wife is from the alcoholic side of your op. Her father sobered up, but not for her, but for her cousin when he was born. Her mother is still a closet alcoholic to this day. I can see it being hard on her sometimes. She hides it well, actually one of the reasons why I quit drinking, not like I needed alcohol anyways. packersfan23
Keep up the good work with your recovery! Like wvloony, I'm not going to insult you by putting myself in your position; I can't and it'd feel like I was cheapening your experience. People tend to classify addictions as an problem that only afflicts the poor and disadvantaged. This simply isn't true. Addiction afflicts a lot of people from all walks of life. People can also find addiction in things that aren't typically considered addictions; gambling addictions, for example, are very real, as real and as serious as drugs or alcohol. A lot of people don't know much about addictions, and are perfectly happy with their ignorance. We need to educate people more.
