Hookamag,I would, however, suggest that you go ahead and search the forums and find members who have made reviews of products in the past and see who might be "worthy" of writing reviews for you. That way you can see who might be worth the "risk" sending product out to.
I agree with this.
Thank you for your concern regarding my post.  I can assure you that all parties that expressed a legitimate interest in writing (which was what the original post was about) were promptly responded to.  Those that were responding to other issues (like Hookah Wiki issues) also were responded to in due time.  Censorship is not the answer.  I also don't know who the "we" you are talking about is, it seems to be just you.  ---I don't mean to cause conflict.  Please have a little tolerance for other people.  To those of you who want free stuff, here is your chance.  I hope that the civil among us can enjoy getting free things and having a chance to express our opinions on hookah products in a bit more formal of a setting.
I would like to agree with a few opinions expressed.Yes, we might be being a little guarded here, we might be looking a gift horse in the mouth. You, hookahmag, have the opportunity to examine people's posts and reviews, right here on HookahForum. Granted, it may not be in the form you want, but I'm sure you can get a sense of a writer's skill and presence from it. I do...I'm not an editor or publisher. You don't really need to ask for submissions, I should think. Just ask for interested parties and see what they've already done. If they haven't done much, ask them to write a review of one or two of their favorite tobaccos and post it online. Then you get the foresight of their accumen as a writer and we get to read a new review.Which brings me to the next question, whom do you represent? That is, who do you work for, who is funding you, what level of interaction do they have in the editorial process? If for instance, the US distributor for Brand X is funding you, are favorable reviews of brand Y or unfavorable reviews going to be published? Your offer is a little vague, at best, which I think is leading to suspicion. I'm sure that many potential future readers of your magazine are reading this post and your posts and would like to know the same information, so they can evaluate whether they want to contribute to or subscribe to your magazine. I indeed sent you a letter regarding my interest in contributing to your magazine and received no reply. I feel I might be knowlegeable regarding some aspects of hookahs and I have written some articles and reviews in the past. I worked professionally reviewing hookah tobacco for a time. That makes your second statement inconsistent with several people's contentions; they wrote to you, but didn't write back. Could you please clarify this? Being as I manufacture hookah tobacco, I would think you would want to write back at least to preserve the element of "Would you like to contribute finacially?" or "Would you make us a special deal on your tobacco, so we could review it for our magazine?" Doesn't seem to bother you which seems to raise questions in my mind, you don't want financial contributions, you don't want reduced price/free tobacco or products to review. Could you please clarify this as well? With regards to your points about Nuschultz:I can safely say that Nuschultz is one of the most knowledgeable and respected members on this forum. The reason that everybody, more or less, respects him is that he contributes to our forum and watches out for other forum members. I'm sure he was expressing a healthy concern for forum members' well being. When he says we, he is asking questions and expressing concerns on our behalf. We are like a family here, I would feel confident to have him speak for my interests any day of the week, twice on Sundays and know he had the best intentions at heart. If he seems agitated, he is fighting to keep something healthy that is good and more or less clean, our lovely uncommercial hookahforum. Censorship is the answer to keep our place clean. If an overtly commercial interest comes along and tries to use this forum, paid for by HookahKings, for interests that are in conflict with the best interests of the forum or HookahKings. We will censor them. More to the point, we will remove offending spam. It is not censorship, as this is not a free medium. We have rules as Yash, in a much more eloquent manner than I have, pointed this out. The moderators will judge that on a case by case basis. I feel like you are thumbing your nose at moderator authority; telling us what's appropriate by using a connotative word. We are really undermotivated jerks, so I can see we deserve it, but I don't think comparing this issue with censorship is justified. Would you say that a tagger's graffitti who paints on a building is protected? Would it be censorship to paint over it? Nor would deleting commercially motivated posts from this forum.Conflict can be healthy. When people pop out of nowhere and start posting things that benefit themselves and not us directly, people ask questions. When people post for a month or two and then pop something like this, nobody would bat an eyelash. Its like a bank of knowledge of hookahs. You contribute in some small way for while and then take something back for yourself. People who want to give nothing and take something are questioned, sometimes sanctioned, sometimes expelled (Bye, HookahGirl). If somebody showa up at your house when you don't know them and you're having a party, and they drink several beers and start to walk out, you'd want to know what was going on, right? Just questions...fair?I read your post a couple of times:
"To those of you who want free stuff, here is your chance.  I hope that the civil among us can enjoy getting free things"
I get the feeling I am seeing a carrot in front of a horse, pulling a wagon. What types of free stuff are we talking about? What manufacturers? Where did it come from? What do you have lined up? Was it donated or supplied at LTR? How many wholesalers/retailers have supplied things for this magazine? I would be willing to donate some tobacco for a nominal cost if I had a better understanding of what was entailed and who was behind this publication. I am perfectly civil, your implication that others here aren't is...vexing. We may be suspicious, we might be unfriendly, but we try to be civil, more or less. I think everyone has been more than civil. I think your magazine is a great idea and look forward to your publication date. Please let me know if there is anything I can do to help...I will try to get back to you sooner than you got back to me.

Oh for the love of god people stop being so sensitive. Write the two reviews, or cut and paste one that you have already done on the website, if they completely snub you then you can still post them here and add to the database of opinions. In other words you have nothing to lose. The way people are acting its like their asking you for a kidney.

tangiers, i also messaged her with the same intent. not only do i own a lounge, but i spend a lot of time in "research" with new flavors and brands, smoking more than i'd like to admit, but alas no reply. do we have someone that could be a committed editor? i wish i had time for such a project, but with the right leadership, there's undisputed authority and talent on this forum. who will harnass this forum's potential?

nuschultz, i definately know its not a forum project, it was a general comment to see if someone in this forum would/could do it. it would be cool as hell if it ever came to fruition. and LZD is definately a better abbreviation than LD, which makes us sound like slow learners.
I think LZD is better...Lazy sounds...Lazy. [IMG]smileys/smiley1.gif" align="middle" />  I think his questions are rhetorical, Nunu.  No reply from the Hookahmag lady, yet. You think they'll let me write for them??? [IMG]smileys/smiley15.gif" align="middle" />
I doubt it. I don't think they want anything critical. I told them I have a BA in journalism and would love to write something. I suspect they are just building a mailing list - prepare for incoming ...SPAM
I think I'm calling shenanigans on this one.
i will second that shenanigans. I sent a pm to her box (haha) and an email to the hookah mag website using my regular email adress and i have not heard anything back

I dunno about this one. They've failed to properly attach the handbook in e-mails to me twice. I'm sure they're the same guys (family?) as elitehookah, and whoever runs elitehookah is really quick to contact you, but the culture clash guys are not so great in the communications department. Kinda makes me wonder what's up.

Shit! I cannot BELIEVE I fell for this. "she" emailed me saying "oh yeah, your review is awesome, i'm gonna send you stuff" and i was like "cool!".

I gave them my full name. My *real* address. cell phone number :(

Edit: Maybe its legitimate, but run by the same folks as elite hookah.
Did Elite hookah ever do anything unsavory that I never caught wind of?

I'm not going to call "shenanigans" so quickly. I'm still faithful in my hookah magazine masters.
