Mya Qt Or The Bambino?

Recommended Posts

Hey guys,

After my previous thread, I've been introduced to the Mya QT and the Mya Bambino and I must say that I am torn between the two. I still plan on getting a 24 inch+ hookah, but that will be delayed to this summer as previously planned. Right now, my main focus is to shelf my Hypnosis Calabaza in NY so I don't have to bring a hookah back and forth during flight and replace it with a solid mini-hookah.

Space is obviously an issue for a student living in the crammed dorms (I live in a private room in a suite with three other roomies, it's great!) which is another reason for delaying the large hookah. But considering the two only have a 2 inch difference, does that difference effect smokability?

What I'm looking for in a hookah is basically this:

  • Portability (duh)
  • Sturdiness (I'm a bit of a rough cleaner, I admit. So something on the more delicate side isn't ideal.)
  • The ability to share (I am not looking for a solo hookah or a two person hookah. Our group usually ranges from three to six. Mya hose adapter isn't a big deal since we all share a hose.),
  • How adaptable it is to other bowls [including fitness. I have such an issue with fitness when it comes to the Hypnosis Calabaza, even with grommets.)
  • Easy Heat management (How many coals as well)

I follow this up with a question, does size matter when it comes to certain brand shishas such as Tangiers? I want a well-rounded, versatile experience and I'm not sure if that's asking too much for a mini-hookah.

Finally, if there's anything you'd like to add feel free! A list of pros/cons would be beneficial.

The size of the pipe has little to do with how it smokes, most of that is the packing, heat management, and airflow.

Both the QT and Bambino have good airflow, and have screw-in purges so you can replace the purge with a hose adapter very easily. (Although since only one person can take a pull from the pipe at any given time, I never understood why multiple hose hookahs even exist) so you can add a second hose to either if you want to.

I can't speak for the Bambino, but my WT was very sturdy, both use the same bowl adapter size so they'll fit all the other bowls out there (might need to get a larger gasket though, the standard mya ones are a bit thin for some bowls)

Heat management depends entirely on how you packed the bowl, type of tobacco, and type of coals.

IMO any mya pipe (except the econo line) is going to perform just the same, it really comes down to personal preference on style.

I know the QT comes with the carrying cage, IDK if the bambino does or not though. Maybe someone else knows that.

The Bambino comes with a case.

It also has a smooth heart which I much prefer to the other Mya's rough hearts. If you are averse to regular cleaning, I think the rough hard would be an issue. I was given an older Mya with the rough heart and I was unable to ever completely get rid of the oxidation.

The Bambino is strictly a single hose pipe as the purge is fixed. The QT's purge can be removed in favor of a hose port, but that greatly increases restriction.

Whatever you choose, I would sub out the stock bowl.

I also prefer the look of The Bambino, but wound up getting one with the QT vase. I think that should have a lot to do with your decision to.

As said above, the Bambino is the 1 Mya hookah you can't remove the purge valve from. It's angled and secured with a nut on the inside instead of screwed in. So if you want something you can turn into a 2 hose it's the QT.

I used QT's as my main hookahs in my old lounge and they worked fine. And I used Phunnels bowls on them to serve Tangiers with no problem. The size of your hookah has nothing to do with the number of coals you'll need.

You know what they say about a man with a small hookah, don't you?       It doesn't effect the number of coals he needs

HEYOOOOOOO!!!

wait.. wut?!

what about a man with some big hookahs and some small hookahs, does that make a difference?

OP, I would say go with a QT!

Thanks for the replies everyone!

I'm so torn! I've heard people had issues with the QT's stem is too delicate and the bottom of the base is too thin or something. The reviews were right here on the forums, too. I think the QT's carrying case is silly and I really like the Bambino's case much better. Seems more protected. But this isn't about the case. I'm also extremely uninterested in the whole two-hose adapter.

What's an open/closed heart? Silly question.

If that's where you stand, I'd say get the bambino! I had an older model QT and it was SOLID. but I have heard issues with the newer models.

I have always been partial to the QT and have owned several over the past few years, but if I were to buy another Mya right now, I'd probably go with the Bambino. Base your decision off of which you think looks better and if you HAVE to be able to do two hoses (I never need two hoses, and strictly use one hosers). Over time, you will probably determine you like one hosers best as well.

Oh wow I got a lot more to learn. Closed hearts, opened hearts, oxidation (which in this case means rust, correct?). Is one heart necessarily better than the other or just preference?

After reading about dual-hoses I find that entire system silly and defeats the purpose of sharing the hookah. When necessary, we just use sterile mouthtips so I just can't wrap my head around dual-hoses if you can't draw at the same time and it's really restrictive.

I like the stem of the Mya better but definitely the base of the Bambino. It looks really sturdy and that's exactly what I want, that and it has a neat spikey-grenade look. I think I may go with the Bambino. It also comes with a non-cage carrying case. Thanks everyone! (But yes what is necessarily better as far as hearts?)

Rust is just when iron oxidizes.

Closed hearts are better but more expensive than open hearts. They purge better, are easier to clean, and have less issues with oxidation. You can usually tell which is which, because open hearts have straight hose ports and closed hearts have purged ports.

I think the QT vase is actually more stable. I would just choose whichever pipe you prefer.

I'm voting the QT. My wife's was solid and smoked like a beast. Even after I got my MYA Staff, my Nammor, and my Syrian, I still pull the QT out cause it is quick set up, sturdy, and smokes like a beast.

The QT is definitely a classic favorite, I use it myself. Just watch out when you order one as their is a standard QT as well as the Econo line QT.

The Econo QT doesn't use a stainless steel stem its only coated with chrome and the coating will start to peel off after some good use.

I vote QT because of the stability. A friend has a bambino and they aren't as stable as a QT because of the vase. I always say if you can, get a bambino stem and a qt vase. I actually have a green qt base I could sell you for super cheap just to get rid of, if you get the bambino stem.

  • 2 weeks later...
I'm smoking out of my QT right now and its my goto when I want a smaller hookah. The base is solid and I enjoy the look but I did knock my stem and it is a bit but smokes like a champ still. I think like everyone is saying either will do think trick just the look you're leaning towards.
